I don't get this. Why pull Carwin from the existing fight with Cain (which I was psyched for)? Why not wait one week and see if Couture wins in dominating fashion, and get a monster buyrate out of Lesnar-Couture 2? And then the winner of Shane-Cain gets the next fight (and gets more of a name for himself).

C'mon now. You absolutely cannot blow your load that quickly. This is like something I thought everybody picked up by osmosis from simply being on a wrestling focused board.

Are you saying that the rematch should be further down the road? If so, I disagree.
The fights are real. You can build towards a wrestling rematch by protecting both competitors, but you can't stop Couture from being beat by, say, Cain Velasquez. You have to make the match while you can.

While pro wrestling seems not to do as well on rematches, UFC has made tons of money. Liddell-Couture 3 and LIddell-Ortiz 2 were both much bigger than their predecessors. Each Ortiz-Shamrock fight was bigger than the previous, even though there was less chance each time that Shamrock would win.
My hunch is that Couture is going to be gunning for Machida, which as far as consolation buyrates go, it's going to be pretty good, but not big enough to warrant the lost opportunity,

The problem with waiting a week is if Couture wins, dominating or not, you have to do that rematch, but Couture might a long layoff to recover, maybe until 2010. Perhaps they figure UFC stands to lose more by not following up on Brock's UFC100 attention then they have to gain by doing Lesnar-Couture 2.
Plus, Velasquez/Carwin might be interesting, but it'll probably eliminate one as a title challenger for the near future. This way, both can be set up for a title match, if Velasquez wins a match that he'll be favored in.

This is the reason, essentially. With Strikeforce attempting to break into the major market, the UFC has stiffened up and gotten more competitively minded again: they've been signing up name fighters, tightening up weaker cards, etc. Carwin/Cain was good as a title eliminator, but from a business perspective, it'd be a year of fights before either guy was a big enough name to be a draw on their own merit, whereas Lesnar is arguably the single biggest draw the UFC has right now. Lesnar vs. Anyone is going to sell, and there's more money to be made from having him just fight Carwin and Cain separately.
The fallout from this is Cain is apparently going to fight Ben Rothwell at 104. Most interestingly of all for the division, Ed Soares says Anderson Silva is seriously considering moving up to *heavyweight*. If he started wrecking the HW division, it'd be pretty astonishing.

Given that the LHW division is pretty stacked anyway, it's quite possible that Couture will want to face Anderson Silva at either HW or LHW. Now there's a big money match.
Kirk, crackers are a family food. Happy families. Maybe single people eat crackers, we don't know. Frankly, we don't want to know. It's a market we can do without.
I'm a bit pissed we won't get Carwin vs Cain but I don't have a problem with Carwin taking Brock and Cain going against Rothwell. I wouldn't give Shane much of a chance against Brock, but it'll be interesting to see how Lesnar handles a guy with his size and power.
Couture and Nog have both looked like they were on the slide recently so either of them would need a couple of impressive wins to be considered legit contenders again IMO. Not that they couldn't draw a ton of money if they were put up against Lesnar, I just don't think either guy really deserves it. They also might not want to risk their heavyweight champion being Nog or a 46-year old when Strikeforce are going to have either Fedor or "The Guy Who Beat Fedor" carrying their belt soon. Not wise to have people thinking the other guy's HW champion could give yours a whipping.
In any event I don't see the buyrate for 106 being a problem between Lesnar-Carwin and, for better or worse, the return of Tito.
Here's hoping she does the baby voice while interviewing Bob Sapp at some point. Or that she keeps her entrance theme. The real ratings, I think, would be in a hidden cam segment of the first time she crosses paths with Mayhem.
