OK, this has been puzzling me for the last two weeks or so. I can see why Vancouver would trade Brashear for a forward who could score 20 goals a season and bolster lines like he did with Dvorak and Nedved in New York. Many teams would want a player like Hlavac, moreso if it meant trading away a guy who's big skill is racking up PIMs.
So, why in the world did Philadelphia trade away Hlavac for Brashear?
...Some fear the Pink... ...But many fear....THE MOUNTIE! (He's handsome, he's brave, and he's strong, you know)
Because Bobby Clarke is a horse's ass, just like Brashear, so they belong together. The Flyers will NEVER (ever) win the Stanley Cup as long as Clarke is running things.
Drugs. The answer is that Bob Clarke is so cracked out of his mind that he traded away the best player he got for Eric Lindros for a guy who'll probably be run out of the NHL by an angry mob before the collective bargaining agreement is up...
Both teams got what they wanted Canucks offense Philly toughness the best team in the east on an off most of the year Toronto... You can make the argument that after Domi got suspended vs the Devils Toronto's play suffered
Bob Clarke traded for a guy who lit up Tie Domi like a Christmas Tree twice last year in the same game...
Toronto has pushed the Flyers around in the playoffs in the past...
There is no such thing as Old School or New School...There is only one School either you get it or you don't...
Well, it seems like a good trade now. I don't know how Hlavac is doing w/ Vancouver, but Brashear has a couple goals and a few assists for the Flyers. Plus he won a couple fights against Domi a few games ago. So far, the trade has worked out well for Philly.
Matthew: You would've loved it, David. A week in a foreign country, strange people, strange customs... Dave: Oh, I know what you mean. I've been to Canada.
Bob Clarke traded for a guy who lit up Tie Domi like a Christmas Tree twice last year in the same game...
Ummmm..........no.
True, Domi doesn't win every fight. But he is never (ever!) "lit up like a Christmas tree". If you wanna see what "lit up like a Christmas tree", looks like, go watch the last Domi/Oliwa fight, where Domi floors Oliwa with four or five punches.
Now, granted, as much as I love Domi, it's pretty impossible for him to be "victorious" over a guy like Brashear. Brashear is just too damn big. But Domi never lets that stop him - he always goes in, no matter how big the guy in question. And I have to give Brashear credit - in the last Philly/Toronto game, Brashear and Domi faught twice - the first Brashear won, the second was about even (more of a tie-up than a fight). But Brashear has dropped all the belt-motioning, "I'm #1" crap, and that's a step in the right direction for him - because when he actually bothers to PLAY hockey, he can be pretty good.
I think Clarke did the deal just to see his name in the newspaper. You already have Fedoruk, Richardson, and Primeau who will drop the gloves so why get another fighter? If he wanted to make a decent move he could have gotten rid of McAllister or Desjardins(he should be moved before he has no value left.)
So the Blackhawks win and end the longest Cup drought in the league, then the Bruins win and their 40-year drought, now the Kings win the first Cup in their 40+ year history. Surely this means the Leafs are due, right? Right?!
