Is it risky to sign a QB until he is 40? Yes it is, but when that QB is Tom Brady and he is giving the team this kind of discount to sign other players you do this all day.

Granted Brady is set for life no matter what he does, but it sets a great tone for the team. Welker has every right to hold out for all the money he can get, but maybe he'll see and sign something that won't bog down the cap numbers as badly. If nothing else there are tons of veterans out there who all have closing windows on their time in the league maybe they take a longer look at the Patriots now.

Here's hoping the guy can stay upright. It will be scary to see how slow his feet are when he is 40. Go Pats!

I'd wager there was never any doubt in anybody's mind that Brady would retire a Patriot. Looks like a done deal now. Good on him. You have to respect someone who stays with his original team, and the one he's led to so much success.

Funny enough, my boss and I just kicked this around at lunch this afternoon before the news of the extension leaked. Honestly, I felt like I would never have said that it is a 100% done deal that you wouldn't see TFB QBing some team like the Jags or Cards in 2015. I mean, one part of me feels like if Belichick told him he couldn't be his QB he would just quit. But then there's the part that knows TFB is a super-crazy competitive dude who would probably go into Eff You mode with another team if the Pats said they didn't want him.

Either way, I'm glad it's not something we need to discuss any time soon.
