@JoeyStyles This year, there will be 40 participants in the Royal Rumble Match instead of 30. It will be the biggest Royal Rumble Match in history!
I hope this doesn't mean the entrance times will be cut down to every minute like in 1995. We'll see how this goes. Sounds like a car wreck on the Mass Pike, King!
Do they HAVE 40 guys to throw in there, or is this more of an excuse to shuffle in the 4 members of each Nexus? It feels like they're making this move just to squeeze in guys like JTG and Curt Hawkins...so they can get tossed in 8 seconds by Big Zeke.
And would it have killed them to come up with this idea earlier than "6 days before the PPV" so we could have SOME sort of buildup?

Is this just to accommodate all 8 Nexus guys? We'lllllll see how this goes. If they hold to 90 seconds it has a good chance of being the longest match in the history of WWE.
You could have all 8 members of Nexus and still throw in Big Show, Alberto, Rey, Swagger and the rest of the mid-card without going to 40.
1-8: Nexus 9. Big Show 10. Alberto 11. Rey 12. Cena 13. Swagger 14. Kofi 15-16. Hart Dynasty 17-18. Santino/Koslov 19. Bryan 20. Kane 21. Morrison 22. R-Truth 23. Sheamus 24. Mark Henry 25. Tyler 26. Drew 27. Yoshi 28. Chavo 29. JGT 30. Curt Hawkins.
am I really missing anyone that important that couldn't be swapped out for the bottom seven? I am kinda glad, the money is not there this year for this. I don't know if I really stomach the boredom.
Seems to me like this is only being done so they can say the winner won the "toughest/largest" Rumble ever. Makes me think it will be a rising star who could use that rub, like Barrett, Sheamus, or Morrison. Or HHH. :)

Hmm. 31. Rhodes 32. DiBiase 33. Uso 34. Uso 35. Regal 36. Ryder 37. Masterpiece 38. Primo 39. Barretta 40. Darren Young 41. Beth Phoenix 42. Triple H? 43. LOL returning joke guy 44. actual cool surprise return guy
It's not like you couldn't easily shred ten of them though.
I concur that the 30-man Rumble concept is already pretty perfect, so why mess with it?
They could also throw in some of the NXT folks...and the upper-midcarders who might not get a match...

The first thing that came to mind was Flair and the "longest time in" record, but Flair doesn't hold that anymore.
Rumble records held by guys who aren't under WWE contract right now:
-In 1998, Mick Foley made the most appearances in a single Rumble, when he entered as Cactus Jack, Mankind and Dude Love. -Viscera holds the record for most opponents necessary to eliminate him, with eight other wrestlers directly involved with lifting him over the top rope in the 2007 Royal Rumble. He also holds the record for second most as Mabel, who was eliminated by seven wrestlers in the 1994 Royal Rumble. Earthquake 1990, Rikishi 2000, and Muhammad Hassan 2005 share the third most, each having been eliminated by six men. -The record for most consecutive eliminations is seven, set by Diesel in the 1994 Royal Rumble and later tied by Rikishi in 2000 and The Great Khali in 2007.
And you don't need a 40 man Rumble to break any of those.
While I'm not on board aesthetic-wise, a 40-man Rumble is at least good since it will give some wrestlers a rare PPV payoff. Maybe a larger Rumble is a hint that there won't be a MITB at Wrestlemania this year.
Crossing my fingers for the token Honky entry, but I guess the odds of that would be nil.
Hee.

*Kane (still with the full mask on back then) grabs his guitar from behind, HTM turns around, and Kane SMASHES it over his head to a huge pop. Kane shakes his head slowly, lifts HTM up and tosses him over the top rope*.
Anyway.
Yeah, the 40-man Royal Rumble just sounds like an excuse to throw the members of both Nexus factions in there. And maybe one or two surprises. Not to mention have someone set a new record for lasting the longest.
I wonder how it will go, and whether 40 men will become standard. God... I hope not.

Eh, I am intrigued. It very may well turn out to be a mess but it's worth a shot just for the heck of it. If it sucks they can just go back to the original format next year and forget it ever happened. It's not like there hasn't been some crappy Rumbles in the past. And at least they are still 20 men and two rings shy of World War III!
But if there is one Rumble rule I could change it would be that there should be count outs- and this should be in battle royales in general. I am sick of the heel hiding on the outside and everyone (except every single person watching at home) "forgets" he was eliminated only to sneak back in. Doesn't have to be 10 seconds. It could be like a minute or something.

Like I said, you can take out the bottom seven I have and swap in other people and still get a good 30 man Rumble. I think it has more to do with breaking the who lasted the longest ie Benoit's record then anything else. We are also assuming their won't be a Cena vs. Punk or another mid-card match. I don't want to see any of the current NXT guys mainly due to it not making too much sense and I could give a shit about them. I actually think it makes more sense that they will have MITB act Mania if they are using the Rumble to give out paychecks.

My burning question of the night...Daniel Bryan sees the much slower, Mark Henry trying to climb the cage to get out, and instead of using his speed to run for the door and get out, he chases after Henry. Why?
