SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento Kings guard Mike Bibby was scheduled to have surgery on his right foot Saturday for a stress fracture he sustained during practice Friday.
''In the short term, this is an unfortunate turn of events for Mike and our team, considering how well he has played during the first two weeks of training camp,'' Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie said in a statement Friday.
The Kings said they had not determined how long Bibby would be out after the surgery, but radio station KHTK in Sacramento reported that Bibby would be out six to eight weeks.
Bibby scored 10 points for the Kings in an exhibition game against the Utah Jazz on Thursday night.
So, he'll miss 4-6 weeks of regular season action? That could really suck for the Kings, but hey, Shaq's out for the start of the season and if I were a betting man, I'd bet on Bobby Jackson stepping up anyway. I have a shaky suspicion we're going to have to endure the "they keep winning without a star!" stories about the Kings until Bibby gets back.
