So today Gary Bettman got what he always seems to crave permission from the Board of governors to lock the players out for the third time in the last eighteen years. Yes three lockouts in less than twenty years. One was in 1994 when the sport was at it's hottest after the Rangers won the cup that lockout wiped out half a year and the league never regained momentum. The next one wiped out an entire year when the sport was struggling and now eight years later the CBA Gary Bettman himself crafted and raved about until two years ago just isn't good enough and here we are on the verge of another lockout. The last lockdown was all about the salary cap and breaking the union and give backs and he got all that and now he and greedy owners like Ed Snider and Jeremy Jacobs want more and more. Well with Fehr in charge the players association is stronger than ever, but Fehr is more than willing to play ball, but not Bettman. Bettman and the owners are dug in even more even months after crowing about record revenues and ratings the owners started crying poverty a week ago. The owners refuse to have revenue sharing nd rejected Fehr's propasal that would have helped twenty-one teams. Nah the rich owners won't even bother talk about revenue sharing they just want the players to role their salaries back even more instead after they rolled it back 24 percent in '05. Fehr has said we wanna help the low revenue teams not help the Leafs continue to line their pockets. Hell the owners want the players to give back ten percent of their hockey related revenue from 57% to the mid 40's while the players are willing to give some back they want a partnership and a 50-50 split while the owners lead by Bettman won't hear of it. I mean they won't make non lemon offers and won't discuss core issues until the players give back ten percent of their paychecks. Ken Dryden has a good article on the myth that Bettman just does the owners bidding here http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/league-and-players-are-fighting-in-an-age-of-disagreement/article4543964/ I mean Bettman already said the fans will be back no matter what so he's thinking what the hell why not another lockout. It is amazing that this clown not only still has a job, but makes eight mil while continuing to fubar the league. I wouldn't be surprised if this season is wiped out. Sorry for rambling by my goodness I can't believe this crap is happening again. Another good article on the awful job Bettman's done http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl-lockout/2012/09/13/nhl_lockout_cba_betmann_bad_for_business/ Also Gary says after September 15th the offers will just get worse from the NHL if that's possible and he doesn't bluff.
I am not sure if the NHL owners give a shit anymore and the more this realization comes into play, the more terrified we will have hockey in the next few years. At least not on TV.

Personally speaking, I find minor league hockey to be more entertaining. I can't imagine how this won't benefit WHL, OHL, AJHL and other minor league teams.

People need their hockey fix.
During the last lockout, I made it to minor league games in 4 different cities. I am starting to plan my business travel around the minor league schedules again.
