On ESPN.com they have projected what the BCS standings would be right now.
1. Miami 2. Virginia Tech 3. Florida State (before they lost) 4. Georgia 5. Notre Dame 6. Ohio St. 7. Texas 8. Oklahoma 9. Penn State 10. Florida
Doesn't look too bad to me. Virginia Tech is higher that I would put them. Georgia too. Notre Dame and Ohio St. should atleast be ahead of them. I'm guessing the only thing holding Notre Dame out of the top 3 and Penn State out of the top 5 is that they're still lower than everyone else in the other polls which is a factor.
Texas is pretty low compared to the other polls, probably because one of these computers that's supposed to judge the best team in the nation has Texas ranked 100th, if there is 99 teams better than Texas I will eat my keyboard. Also one of them has Florida ranked 152nd.
I like that they got rid of margin of victry, but I think it's mistake tweaking the quality wins formula so that a quality win is only a win over a team that finishes in the top 10. So if Florida finishes 11th then Miami beating them isn't a quality win? I think if you beat any ranked team that's a pretty good win.
Eh, it is to early to worry about this stuff. But the whole polling scheme is a joke. Does anyone really care about any of the polls outside of AP, USA Today/ESPN, and Sagarin? IMO, the other polls in the BCS system are written by people who may be knowledgeable about football but are pretty much useless.

There is one way that the BCS can be done away with, but it would take many things to fall into place. Miami would have to run the table, Oklahoma/Texas winner would have to run the table, and Notre Dame would have to remain unbeaten. If Notre Dame were the team to get screwed by the system (and it would be tough to jump unbeaten 1 and 2), that might cause enough of a reaction to force the brain dead stooge presidents of the Universities to consider a play-off, as their is in every other NCAA sport, thus weakening the importance of the polls.
Thank you Mr. Wanz for the check, now you get an AWA World Title Reign. But be careful, my boy Greg is a heat machine.
The computers each rank based upon certain criteria (or biases, depending on if they grade against your school). Being undefeated, playing a tough schedule, beating ranked opponents, ranking in polls, etc., all factor in differently for different computers. It's the old 'redundancy removes error' notion, though I have to question why VT is 2 and Georgia is 4.

Yeah, cause lord knows those conference commissioners (the guys with the final say in the BCS) LOVE Notre Dame.
Personally, I think they'd all throw one big party if that happens. I just hope they invite me.

i thought ND couldn't get screwed by the BCS because they are part of the BCS. they get a bowl game regardless. they get better bowl games if they do better, but if you look at the bowl matchups it says: so and so school #X vs so and so school #Y or Notre Dame.
Currently suffering from Pink Eye. First, chicken pox at 20, now pink eye. What's next, the mumps? That's just my 2.461 Yen.
I only wish the top two teams WERE Ohio State/Notre Dame. God, I hate any team that gets on NBC every week for no good reason. I'd like to see Clarrett lay the whoopin' on 'em.
I still don't see why the Florida teams are ranked so high EVERY single year, theire schedule isn't THAT hard. I don't care what anyone says.
Big Ten, staying strong and STILL doing better than the announcers give them credit for.

Florida teams get ranked so high because of name recognition. Just like Nebraska.

Florida Gators UAB - decent team Miami - #1 Ohio - yeah they suck Tennessee - #10 Kentucky - obviously pretty good, had the top offense in the SEC, Lorenzen has as many 300 yard games as Grossman Ole Miss - with Eli Manning they're a threat against anyone LSU - defending SEC champion and #19 Auburn - #24 Georgia - #6 Vanderbilt - they suck South Carolina - they could be ranked by the end of the year FSU - #11
If you're a fan of any top 25 team then don't tell me we don't have a hard schedule because it's harder than anyone else's.
Isn't good a bit relative? I can understand a top ten ranking, but come on, now. There's so many OTHER teams that are just "good". That's like me saying I like ham on my ham sandwich. I'm not a moron, I realize they're "good," that still doesn't mean I agree with their ranking every single year. Also, I don't see their schedule being any tougher than any Big Ten school's schedule, year in and year out.

Computer polls are a joke. Wait...what's that? You say the Big Ten is #1 among conferences according to computers? Oh, nevermind. Computer polls (does hand symbol) 4 life.

I'm a ND fan, but the N.Y. Times poll is a joke. Just remember, a few years ago they had Hawaii as the #1 team in the country, so that tells all you need to know about that polls credibility.
I want you to know, I agree with everything I've just said.
