When Austin was on Byte This, he said something about bringing back some "old friends" who were fired as well as mentioning a "secondary title". I would LOVE for Austin to bring back the IC title. I think perhaps WWE realizes they NEED a secondary title now, when even the wrestlers themselves are saying it was a bad idea to get rid of it (Edge mentioned this a few columns back as well). I say, Austin brings back the title and they have a tourny for it. Steph, not to be outdone by RAW having another title, also brings back a secondary title to Smackdown.....the US Title. So the both shows have a main title, a secondary title, and a "show specific" title (Women's for RAW, Cruiserweight for SD) and everybody will be happy.

I expect that will be the case. Although with the constant suggestions that Raw will eventually become WCW (World title instead of WWE title, Eric Bischoff instead of Vince McMahon, crappy writing instead of good writing, etc.) that maybe Raw will get the U.S. title. But nevertheless, with split PPV's coming up quickly, it would certainly make sense?
And just to be the first one to get this going.... I think Booker T would fit into that U.S./Intercontinental champion role quite nicely, given that he'll never get HHH's belt and everything.

I wonder who these "old friends" are?

My money's on any combination of Lita, JR, Dudley Boyz, or the APA. Of course, I still wouldn't care about any of them.

Of that group (other than JR) I'd put my money on the APA. Bradshaw is due back from rehab any day now, and don't forget that Austin was working tag matches with Bradshaw right around the time he stormed out last year.

*Whoops wildly*

Yay, Bradshaw and JR could be coming back. At least they'll be know questions as to what makes the ratings spike this week ;)

Oh my God, how could we forget? They teamed up against the NWO every week for about two months.

You all know that HHH will be handed the Intercontinental title since he technically still holds it.

NO!!...

As much as I'd love to see them bring back the IC title, I'd love it even more if they brought back the old belt design. The "jelly bean" IC belt did nothing for me. The old IC belt design was one of the simplest and best designs ever used. That's why you see it used for a whole bunch of indy titles.

I know it would never be done, but that could actually make for a fun little night on RAW. Austin comes back and starts by saying that HHH is a great champion. In fact, he's so great that he actually holds 4 titles and recalls the fact that the IC, Euro, and Hardcore titles were combined into HHH's current title, but HHH is still all of those champions. He then notes that it's been many months since HHH defended those titles and sets up matches for all those titles throughout the night. He can fight, say, Tommy Dreamer for the Hardcore title and due to a ton of outside interference and the Hardcore title rule, Tommy Dreamer pins HHH to win the belt. His match for the Euro title is against, lets say, The Hurricane. Because of the tremendous beating he took in the Hardcore match, HHH loses to Hurricane and the Euro belt. He then takes on Booker T for the IC title and drops that belt to Booker. It gives HHH the excuse that he had to fight three matches in one night, so he keeps his heat and helps guys like Dreamer and Hurricane get the rub by pinning HHH. Everybody wins.

Like I said, it would never happen, but I think it would make for a fun night if it did.

As for the Smackdown belt - isn't Rhyno still ECW Champion? Couldn't they make that the new Smackdown belt? I'm thinking of the Hardcore title without all the stupidity. (No DQs, no count-outs - that's it. Pinfalls only count in the ring. If you aren't in the match, you can't win the match. No 24/7 bullshit.)

ok i'm a little slow...here's my question.

Why the hell did they get rid of the IC title in the first place? ever since I started watching wrestling back when Honky Tonk Man had it, I thought it was the coolest belt. Then you look at all the stars who have worn that belt, It seemed like a pretty important part of wrestling history or what have you. I just don't understand why.

Now there is thought of bringing it back?. If the title was so meaningless before what makes them think it's gonna mean something now.

If it does come back, I can see it getting passed around once every 2 weeks.

It was a dumb, shortsighted move by them because they thought there were too many titles. Yet in 2001, they really did have too many belts and were fine with that.

I think if Raw (or SD! for that matter) is going to start with its own pay-per-views, it needs more than one belt to shoot for. And the Intercontinental belt, or whatever it ends up getting called, would be the perfect steppingstone for mid-card talent.

And those made for some horrible, horrible RAWs. I was at one in College Station and it was just pathetic. Bradshaw would typically get on the mic and exhort the virtues of George W. Bush, while Hall and X-pac linked arms to take a double stunner.

Exactly. They could bring back the IC title on Raw and as was posted earlier in this thread, have the US title for SmackDown.

The IC belt will always be my fav. Think of all the peeps that have held it, HonkyTonkMan,Ricky Steamboat,Macho Man, Mr. Perfect, Tito Santana, Y2j, Kurt Angle, HHH, Rocky, etc. Fueds for the Intercontinental Championship have been more memorable for me than the world title, I marked my ass off for the Y2j and Chyna fued(yes, I said that). Y2j was getting over huge on those PPV's even though he was a heel and facing a women, they made it seem like he was a bad guy who had a hunger for the gold and not just some dumbass women hater.

And Macho Man vs. Tito Santana was good start to about three cool freakin years in a row of really good IC title fueds. I hope the writing gets good enough to help the smaller/jobber/under used crowd get over with the fans from their fueds for the belt.

I don't think they should bring back the IC Title just quite yet. Bring it back in July, when there's no RAW Pay-Per-View. They'll have 2 months of TV to fill leading up to SummerSlam and what better way to fill it then with a big ass tournament?

These three are so good at all the little things that make their characters go that even short throwaway segments like these are a joy to watch. Another good showing and yet another tough loss for poor Bull Dempsey.
