I guess most of you saw the McMahon quote saying that the Rock and Steve Austin would wrestle in the WWE in 2003...so the argument is over.

I, for one, am pumped.

I'd be more pumped for an on-camera role for Bret Hart, but to each his own I suppose.

If he is the motived Steve Austin then I am psyched. Hopefully it will be on Raw and signal the end of the Gerwitz era.

From the infamous Wrestleline SS interview:

DTD: If you were to make changes in WCW, if you were in charge and not Ric Flair, what would they be?

SS: I'd get rid of all the old guys, and push the talent that has waited to get the push. The things they are doing, it's back in the 1980s. It's just bad, man. Flair doesn't even deserve to be on the show. You've got to get rid of all the old guys. Like what Vince did, they started pushing guys. Nobody knew who The Rock was 2 years ago. He made The Rock. Now The Rock just did Saturday Night Live. You've got to start with the young talent, talent people can relate to. Who are we trying to relate to if we've got a 50 year old man out there? Are we trying to relate, so a 50 year people and above will go out and buy a f*cking little toy? That ain't gonna happen. It's a f*cking joke.

Does it remind you of any show in particular?

Now surely Vince can a)See that the current Raw writer(s) are tanking big-time and b)Austin's return could be a huge help IF he goes on Raw. Now why doesn't he just kill two birds with one stone by firing the current Raw penners to appease the returning Austin?

The returning Austin vs. a returning heel Rocky would seriously make me consider flying cross country for Wrestlemania.

How about a super -cocky Hollywood Rock, give him a super push over everybody, maybe have Vince
at his side again. Have an ultra-humble and repentant Steve Austin, with nerdy hair even, a shell of his former self. Have Rock squash him a few times, with little reaction from Steve. Maybe have Steve seem injured and back on the shelf. Then have the "old" SCSA, bald head, vest and all save someone
from a severe, multi-blade Rock beatdown. Then have the match at WM. The key would be to make Rock an ultra-monster heel and make Steve at first seem like a defensless has-been. The only problem is Raw needs SCSA and Smackdown is Rock's show.

Bret Hart? Dude you are living in the old man.... Bret Hart definitely isn't coming back any time soon. First he was screwed out of a title and then goldberg accidently kicked him in the face and he constantly wines about it. I'm actually glad that Bret Hart isn't coming back cause all he'll do is wine about how he was treated in the past and that he never gets his way.

Well if they play the "champions prerogative" card, as they did to explain away the unified title being only on smackdown, then Rock could just go back to both shows. Since he'd be "Hollywood" and want all the spotlight a star like him would deserve and what not.

I think what he wants is Bret on air, like Heyman. He does not need to wrestle.

When the split happened, I was hopefull that bret would lead Team Canada against the world. Get Benoit, Edge, Christian, Lance Storm, Test and Trish and have them feud against the Americans. Having Bret as the mouthpiece would have been awesome.

As for Austin, come back, don't come back, I don't care. Once bitten twice shy I say. Bringing him back is like going back with your ex who cheated on you and you found out. If she does it again, you have no one to blame but yourself for thinking it would work out.

If he comes back, who does he feud with? Rock would be great but for how long? HHH? Forget it. Steiner? Maybe. More than likely he would go after Angle and Benoit and have them job cleanly to a guy who has not put on a good match in ages.

I say have him come back as a hit and run guy. Have him sign with the WWE but not affiliated with either Smackdown or RAW. For weeks have him come out and stun random wrestlers while verbally berating Bischoff and Steph. After a couple of months, have him choose a side and then he can start to wrestle a match. As for im between, he can be the speciall enforcer or the referee at the PPV main events.

What's the big deal? Rock and Austin each other on PPV and tv a bunch of times. Although Rock has never beaten Austin in a singles match. The only time I think Rock has ever gotten some sort of victory or pinfall over Austin was at Survivor Seris '01, but that was screwy.

How about getting pumped for this? Possibly Brock Lesnar vs. Kurt Angle at the main event at wrestlemania...possibly a match...we've *GASP* NEVER SEEN BEFORE! Now I'm not saying Rock and Austin shouldn't wrestle at Wrestlemania, just not in the main event.

I'd like to see Rock and Austin paired off against other people but it's a proven money feud that could get both characters off and running and then peel them off into other feuds. I could watch Austin and Rock interact forever, there's just a special magic when they're in the ring together.

Here's a question for you guys, if you do Austin-Rock at Mania as well as Lesnar-Angle for the title, what do you put on last? Last year, the heat of Rock-Hogan killed the heat for Jericho-HHH. Or was it the lame feud that killed the heat for Jericho-HHH?

I think I'd keep Lesnar & Angle as the last match but put Austin-Rock further down the card. They only had 1 woman's match between Rock/Hogan and the main event, if I remember correctly. Having Austin-Rock on the card, will help Lesnar-Angle because it'll get more exposure for the great match that they'll have.

Because this will likely be the last run together for these two (in their prime) and I'd like to see it. I'm not saying it should be the main event, but I'd keep it as the high profile "special attraction", a la Hogan/Rock.
I have spent more of my money to see Steve Austin than on any other WWE superstar. Will I fly across the country to see Brock Lesnar? No, not in 2003. Kurt Angle? Maybe, depending on his match. (no, not with Brock... yet)Rocky? Probably. Austin? Likely. Rock/Austin one more time? Absolutely.
Just a personal preference, I guess.

Is the writing staff under contracts like the wrestlers? In which case it would be inefficient economics to fire the whole batch?

I agree with your post but I'm wondering if there is more to it than just firing them all. There usually is. TV writers are unionized.

I'd like to know why people are getting excited about the return of The Rock and Steve Austin and hope they come back and reign forever and a day, and yet at the same time are upset that WWE doesn't seem to be pushing the new stars as much as they should. There's somewhat of a contradiction there, no?

If we can get the motivated Austin back (and get rid of the “What?” Pandora's box), that'd be cool with me-- for awhile. But it would mean that Austin would come back and probably be immediately put into a feud for the World Title, meaning “screw Booker T, screw Chris Jericho, screw Rob Van Dam.” If he goes to SmackDown and feuds for the WWE Title, that means “screw Brock Lesnar, screw Kurt Angle, screw Chris Benoit, screw Eddie Guerrero”. I say-- screw Austin. Let him stay home... drink a beer... punch his wife... sit on the couch... and think about the good old days when he had talent both in the ring and on the mic. His last few months in WWE didn't convince me that he had either.

I'm sure Vince's legal team has figured it all out. Like how the wrestlers aren't "actors", they're "independant contractors". Lawler's also said before that they go through writers like nothing.

I love Angle and Brock, but they do not draw like Austin and Rock, period. For now, not forever, not in
the future, a mean, nasty unbeatable super-pushed Rock vs. a pussy, fag-haired,just-trying-to-
apologize, pathetic Austin. Austin gets killed at first, re-born as Stone Cold, match on. Simple. Then
they both go into other feuds, Brock and Angle back to main events with them. Oh, and keep HHH the
fuck away from them all. Feud him with Crash Holly.

The cynic in me thinks that maybe McMahon is only saying that to spark up interest in the product again.

Angle-Rey rocked the casbah. Those two can both carry people to good matches, so put them together and damn they're good. And Angle reprising his role as dorky young boy loving guy was awesome.
