"Because personally if I was being choked by Ric Flair, my personal reaction would be well, "Glrrrrkkk, can't breathe" but after that... "Man, I'm being choked out by Ric Flair, this is so cool." and then some more "Gllllrrrrk, can't breathe."" (Llakor)
The AP's reporting that the Isles have canned head coach Steve Stirling after a year and a half (x.go.com).
Originally posted by APAn interim coach will be in place before the Islanders' home game against Calgary on Thursday night, and it won't be general manager Mike Milbury, the person told the AP. The rest of the coaching staff is expected to remain and Stirling will likely be offered another position within the organization.
He went 38-29-11-4 during his rookie year of 2003-04 and guided New York to its third straight playoff appearance after taking over for the fired Peter Laviolette. But a recent skid dropped the Islanders out of the playoff picture and sealed his fate.
The final blow came Tuesday when the Islanders lost in Nashville to fall to 18-22-2, fourth place in the Atlantic Division.
Brad Shaw to take over as Isles coach, Milbury to step aside once a new GM is found. The hope is that the new GM will be in place to handle all the moves in the coming off-season.

I think every Isles fan today is breathing a small sigh of relief that, finally, Mad Mike has been removed from the day-to-day operations of the team.
But I am getting a bit confused every time I hear interim coach Brad Shaw referred to by name...too bad he didn't come out onto the ice tonight in a limo outfitted with steer horns. :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one...every sports commentator I've heard says "Brad Shaw" very quickly, so it sounds like "Bradshaw".
Whatever mojo he used worked tonight, as the Isles were able to beat the Flames (blowing yet ANOTHER lead) tonight.
I took the day off from work today so I could see the UNH game this morning. I'm actually a student at UNH so the fact that they're in the finals is pretty exciting. Can't wait for Saturday's game. Go 'Cats!
