So the issue's finally cleared up: Alfred Molina will play the doc in Spidey 2. He's a top-notch actor and all (if you don't know him, he's the guy who betrays Indy and runs off with the idol right at the start of Raiders Of The Lost Ark), but I'm not sure if he's right for ock. I don't recall Ock ever being Spanish/Italian, for one thing. Thoughts/feelings/other suggestions?

He was also in Frida (Salma as a lesbian, can't be beat) and his appearance there was a lot more Doc Oc like. I don't think Doc was Spanish or Italian either, but he always had the funky accent on the cartoon, so who knows.

"Octavious" is a very Romanesque name, anyway... could work.

Strange as it may sound, I always thought Harvey Keitel would've been the perfect choice for the role. With the right hair he'd be the dead ringer for Ock, and he's also got much more of a physically imposing appearance than other options.

Molina also had a memorable role in Boogie Nights where he played the nut who Dirk Diggler and company try to sell drugs to.

I always though Arnold was a good Doc Ock - but he ruined it by playing Mr. Freeze. (Can't be TWO supervillians!)

The Doc is a big guy - have to be to hold up those arms, even with the exoskeleton. How about (with hair), a smart-ass Dan Ackroyd? He's due for someting.

But I guess whoever it is will work fine, as long as they play up the fact that the Doc Looooooves Aunt May.

Hmmm, interesting choice, I suppose.

I for one, have decided to take a wait and see approach when it comes to the casting for these Marvel films. After all, Anna Paquin as Rogue was just fine, Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson worked out very well, and....well, I actually haven't seen Daredevil yet, so I don't know what to think of Ben Affleck in that role yet.

Put the little shades on Molina and he's perfect:

He'll have to get past the "amiable British guy" look, but he looks really close to my idea of Octavius.

According to IMDB, he was in Chocolat and Magnolia.

So...

The Amazing Spider-Man
Directed by Sam Raimi [Spider-Man, Evil Dead trilogy, For Love of the Game, The Gift]
Starring Tobey Maguire [Spider-Man, Cider House Rules], Kirsten Dunst [Spider-Man, Interview With A Vampire], Alfred Molina [Frida, Magnolia], Bruce Campbell [Spider-Man, Evil Dead trilogy], and Elizabeth Bank [Spider-Man, Catch Me If You Can] as Betty Brant
Written by Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Chabon

Looks pretty damned good to me. Not to mention the award nominated SFX team. Yeah! Now, all they have to do is give CGIdey (CGI + Spidey) more weight and all is solved.

What's Bruce Campbell doing in it? Did I miss him in the first one?

You certainly did. Bruce Campbell was the ring announcer in the first movie, and he's likely to appear in anything Sam Raimi's involved in, since those two have been friends for approximately one million years.

Also, I didn't hear anything about Chabon writing this one. I had heard that those two dudes who created Smallville will be writing a draft, which would then be revised by David Koepp, who did the original.

Freeway 420, you forgot Rosemary Harris and JK Simmons.

On the spider-man 2 screenwriting. David Koepp wrote an early draft of the screenplay. The Smallville creators took that script and made two new drafts of it. Michael Chabon was then hired and made a completely original script draft. Right now Alan Sargent who did some re-writes on the first movie is looking over all the drafts and doctoring Chabon's.

Ted Raimi. He played Hoffman, Jonah's assistant.

Molina also was in the Mel Gibson version of Maverick. He played Angel, the guy who left Maverick to the rattlesnakes.

I think he'll be fine as Doc Ock.

Speaking of Bruce Campbell I thought I'd share this story:

When he was here in North Carolina for a book signing, one of the women begged him to say, "Gimmie some sugar, baby."

Campbell looked over the crowd, and then looked back a the woman and said, "Do I look like your little monkey?"

".....No...."

"That's right. I'm Sam Raimi's little monkey."

As a girl, I've found it's not so much the food as the extra touches that count. Put a tablecloth down, get cloth napkins, eat by candle light, play some Frank Sinatra in the background.
