One part HBK (Survivor Series 1997), one part CM Punk (Money in the Bank 2011), with a little AJ Styles (October 2013) mixed in.

Eddie Kingston's mic antics at the end were a nice touch to add to the chaos.

Also a long missed legend's return was a perfect coup de grace for the night.

I figured that the Good Brothers' promise to have more friends show up next Tuesday were going to be more Hornswoggle rather than Bullet Club, so nice touch on the extra level of the surprise.

Of course the impactwrestling website immediately crashed in the aftermath of the show.

For those not watching - who was the legend?

The Sting signing was a surprising thing. They've been doing a really good job of using the ... more senior talent, so I'm confident they won't screw that up.

However, I'm waaaay more excited about the imminent AEW/Impact crossover, & Kenny & Don Callis reunited! (After all, Kenny has allies seeded all over the pro wrestling world!)

I love the banter on twitter, with wrestlers on both sides basically calling out wrestlers on the other side. It'll be interesting! (And I *like* interesting.)

Year 1: Establish AEW as a serious player.

Year 2: Initiate "Change the World (of Wrestling)"

----
ETA: "Coincidentally", this week's Impact Wrestling (12/1/2020) gave us a "Flashback Moment of the Week" of the ending of MCMG vs Max & Jeremy Buck's Full Metal (TLC) match ( Final Resolution 2010 (The W), I believe.) I wonder why they chose that one. :-)

The Impact interview needed about 90% fewer references to WWE. Sneaking in an "Ambrose" mention was surprising, but the comments about making memories, stooge, Stanford, Tough Enough, ... that's not what I want from this. That's what we got from wrestling on TNT 20 years go. Doing so reduces Matthews to a former WWE guy, not a current Impact guy.

Omega says he wants to use his free time to have fun in other companies and collect belts. Callis establishes himself as a mastermind. That's all we need. That's all I want.

Impact has a PPV Saturday and the Division X champ has an open challenge then. Seems the way to anchor Omega to Impact further.

As a regular viewer of Impact - Okay, no actually, let's just get this out of the way right now. A while ago, when I was still doing NXT recaps, I mentioned how Johnny Gargano went from somebody I didn't care about at all to My Favorite Wrestler, and knowing how much I hated Kyle O'Reilly, somebody chimed in to say they looked forward to the day when Kyle would be my favorite. Well, credit where it's due, because old Kiley's improved enough that I don't hate him anymore, but no, he's not my fave. What actually happened is that I, who was once TNA's biggest detractor, discovered in 2020 that Impact Professional Wrestling was now my favorite wrestling show. Didn't see that one coming.

And I bring this up because what I like about Impact is not really what anybody saw last week. I like that mostly they don't take themselves too seriously. They do goofs and Women's wrestling (which we only really saw one example for each of those). They know what they are now, and they know that if anybody with real talent comes through their doors, it's only a matter of time before they move on to bigger things - in fact, they just lost three of their best guys a couple weeks ago.

So, on this episode, I think they tried a little too hard to do the kind of show they thought an AEW fan would like, and not the kind of show that they're actually good at. The women's tag match was good, but all of those women can do better, and deserved more time. There should have been at least one, maybe two more women's matches. Cody Deener, if you've ever seen him before, is legitimately a funny guy. He showed pretty good fire in a serious promo last week, but unless you already care about Cody because you've been watching him have fun for a year, I don't know that his so-so match with Eric Young was going to sell him for you. The bit with Dreamer, Bravo, and XXXL was hilarious if you're familiar with the last 3-4 months worth of television, but probably didn't make a lot of sense otherwise (but I'm not sure how you'd bring new viewers up to speed on that, so maybe just jumping into the deep end there was the right call after all). Even the stuff with Rohit Raju wasn't at it's usual level. Seriously, this guy is the new Honky Tonk Man, and he should hold that title for a calendar year.

This was all Very Serious Wrestling, which not even the Women's division always excels at - about half of them are magic (oh, also, in Impact magic is real, the afterlife is real, the devil is real, he manages sometimes, and right now, he's holding the former Knockouts champion in hell in an attempt to change her personality back into an innocent, child-like character so that the Knockouts champion can beat her. This is why Impact is my favorite). I need Impact as an antedote to AEW and NXT getting rods up their asses about This, Our Great Sport. I could go on and on (and I have!) but I think you all get my point by now.

I think you can be brought up to speed enough with another gripping episode of Wrestler's Court.

and part 2:

So many wasted years of Tommy Dreamer being hardcore, when he should have been doing comedy wrestling all along.

It's the most important meal of the day.
