Paige is back, leading a Tough Enough-based stable of Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose in a scorched-earth attack on a big chunk of the women's roster (Alexa included).

Roman completed the WWE "grand slam" by winning the I-C Title from Miz, sending him off to film another movie.

I'm excited to see Paige back, but I'm way more excited for Sonya and Mandy. Sonya has a great look and a gimmick that can be killer if they let it be (and it's probably good to get her away from NXT if Shayna Bazler is going to be there). Mandy could be Trish 2.0 if they do things right.

Really liked Sonya's NXT work, particularly a house show match with Aliyah in my area.

She may be the first openly gay female wrestler in a major promotion, as well.

People certainly seemed pleased to see Paige back. Can't blame them for that at all. Hopefully this will lead to some good matches. Is Alexa now a face? She should be if she isn't.

Roman winning the title - does this mean we are heading for a Hogan v Warrior WM6 moment at WM33? And that played out really well in the big picture! Is Miz off to film a new film or did they just want Roman to look great before Ambrollins win the title back so they all have one?

Strowman seems to be in a strange spot at the moment. Kane and HHH are obvious matches to have in the near future, but him against Lesnar seems a lot better for Mania. Kane has been great, but don't want to see a match nor do I want to see a 25+ minute match against HHH. Go with what people want and just do Lesnar and Strowman in a 'proper' match where people can kick out of finishers as that is the norm apart from in Lesnar matches if you are trying to make Reigns look superb.

Miz is making The Marine Part 27 (and hopefully spending some time with Maryse too).

I didn't get why Sonya & Mandy would be brought up to work with Paige but I saw it pointed out today that they were both on Tough Enough when she was a judge...let's see if WWE actually remembers that though. The RAW women's roster is pretty crowded now though when SD! really needs some new blood on the heel side...

    Well

I'm going with the theory they are preparing for a women's Royal Rumble match so they needed a lot more women all of a sudden. Maybe this is how Asuka gets a title shot at WM?

To spell it out: Ruby Riot, Liv Morgan, and Sarah Logan debuted as a heel trio on SD tonight. Jazzed to see Ruby/Heidi Lovelace on the main roster; she was super cool when I saw her and talked to her at indie shows.

The last time they did a wholesale callup of women from NXT, there wasn't much left besides Asuka. At least this time there's a solid base: Ember and Kairi as top faces, Nikki Cross as tweener, and Peyton/Billie as top heels. Mix in the new Mae Classic recruits as necessary.

A womens Rumble looks very likely. Have to say that it doesn't interest me at all. Hopefully if it happens it will go well and I am wrong. Are the 3 women on each brand going to be aligned somehow? Seems strange for it to happen at the same time.

Don't forget we've seen Abby Laith a few times already, as well as Mercedes Martinez recently (although I don't know if she's signed any kind of deal - Candice LeRae, either, actually). So it's not just the MYC contenders; there are also some familiar, if not necessarily established, names.

I agree that it's kind of weird to do exactly the same three-woman faction attack on both RAW and SD. It feels like the groups should be aligned, but they've never done anything like that before, so I don't know if they'd be brave enough to do it now. It's probably just lazy copy-and-paste booking, but it's still weird.

A Women's Royal Rumble interests me not so much for the match, as I can't see it being especially enthralling, but for the implications. While it isn't guaranteed, as evidenced by previous Rumbles, it greatly increases the likelihood of a women's single's match for one of the titles, which I think is a good thing.

Last year we had a six-pack challenge and a fatal four way for the two titles. The previous year we had a three-way for the switchover from Diva's Championship to Women's Championship. The year before that, the title wasn't even defended as the Bella Twins (Nikki was champion) faced off against AJ Lee and Paige. The last time there was a women's single's match at Wrestlemania was ten years ago at Wrestlemania 23 (Trumpamania), which was Melina vs Ashley.

Charlotte recently did an interview where they asked her who her dream opponent would be at Wrestlemania and she basically said she didn't care who it was as long as it was a singles match. If they want the female Royal Rumble to be meaningful, I think they'd have to give the winner a single's match for the title at Wrestlemania.

Personally, if I were WWE I'd be protecting Charlotte & Asuka over the next year, while keeping them on separate brands, with a goal of building toward a Charlotte vs Asuka main event at Wrestlemania 35. A Rumble would be an easy way to set up such a match without either woman needing to turn heel. (Personally, I prefer Charlotte as a heel, and I'd be interested in seeing Asuka as a heel since I suspect it would suit her personality, but a face-vs-face Wrestlemania main event could be good, especially in regard to keeping it a mystery who was going to win.)

Also, for those worried about NXT being depleted, according to Wikipedia there are currently 8 women on the active roster, which is plenty for a one-hour weekly show. There are 34 men on the roster (two of which are currently out injured), nearly half of which are primarily tag team wrestlers, and a few others of which are basically jobbers at this point (RIP Blake & Murphy). There are another 10 women on the live event roster, a couple of which have been on TV before, so I think they'll be fine. We were worried when Charlotte, Sasha, and Becky were all called up at once but they did just fine.

While I agree that Billie Kay & Peyton Royce deserve to be called up, I have no problem with them sticking around a bit longer to serve as the transitional champions between Ember Moon & Kairi Sane.

I'd also love to see Zelina Vega get into the mix, but I'm not sure that would be the best option from a storyline standpoint since it would require her to be less focused on Cien. I could see a storyline where she decides to pursue the women's championship and Almas loses the title and blames it on her lack of focus, but they're not going to do an intergender match and I don't want to see a male wrestler coming in to be her savior, so that wouldn't be the best option. Nor do I want to see Almas called up without her, though I'm sure he'd do okay. Of the 10 former NXT champions they've called up so far, 2 of them haven't sucked! (Okay, that's not entirely accurate. Big E has done pretty well for himself and Samoa Joe hasn't been entirely wasted yet.)

As far as the women's Rumble goes, though, I can understand the lack of interest, but I think looking at the bigger picture is important here. However, there are only 22 women currently on the WWE roster. Do they simply leave the champions out and have a 20 woman Rumble? Do they give the champions singles matches and insert a couple of surprise entrants to round it out at 20? Kairi Sane & Shayna Baszler could both be worthwhile special attractions. I'm sure there are a few nostalgia pops they could find as well. There have been rumors of Kaitlyn coming back, this could be a fine place for that to occur. Beth Phoenix looked in good enough shape to pull off a Rumble appearance. If they're still seriously considering Rhonda Rousey being involved with Wrestlemania, this would be an obvious place to kick that off. I'm sure they'll have no problem filling in the numbers. I'm curious as to whether they'll actually do 2-minute intervals or go with something shorter. I suppose the answer to all of this is "wait two months and find out".
