So, this season happened. I am not sure what to make of it. It played every well as a depressing cop/political drama. As the heir to the moody, Cthulhu mythos, speechifying brilliance of Season One...No. No, hell no. I am not saying it was bad, it was just all over the place. Woody and Matthew had awesome chemistry due to the time allowed for them to be in the car. When you have four main characters that loosely stringed together, you get little or no chemistry.
I thought McAdams was the break out star. Taylor was good, but it felt like he was looking hard as if it was an acting style. Colin and Vince were good especially Vince. Vaughn's best speech was when he was a kid in the basement getting eaten by a rat. That was as good as it got with the show. Colin's back and forth ugly/handsome was a bit odd.
My main problem is the whole everyone is in on it. You have the political family, you have the Russian mob, you have this vague corporation and finally a pseudo Black Water organization. It was like they were fighting the Illuminati as opposed to the Cthulhu worshipers in season one. I am wondering if there is an connection especially with the bizarre parties. It also makes no sense that there is no one else that thinks the deals are weird or how they got processed with no money. The family getting away with it and killing off three of the four main character was a bit annoying.
I do think it was good. It just had massive standards to live by. What didn't help was having ten different storylines and only a few get resolved. Perhaps, all the open stories will lead to some massive team up in Season 3. If Season 3 is another evil political family that owns a state then HBO needs to step in and suggest a re-write.
