I pretty much always have fun at live shows, even when the show itself isn't the best on TV. I hate to have to say that this was pretty disappointing. No fault to the workers, who were doing their thing. But the pacing of the show, & the overall absence of actual wrestling was just ... bad. If there are going to be that many talking segments, & backstage segments, plus all the adbreaks, I'd really rather watch it on my HDTV, with good audio, good camera angles, & not having to crane my neck to see the overhead, in-arena TV screens. Plus the option to FF the redundancies & bullshit.
Repeatedly, they'd announce somebody, get a big crowd pop, maybe do their entrance, & then let us all sit & go flat while they send TV to commercials or taped pieces. Don't know if there's been a policy change, but I remember most of the good workers "doing something" rather than just leaving us sitting there -- chatting up the crowd, or doing some dark promo ... something rather than just letting us sit there.
I like Goldust, & his promo was good on TiVo when I got home; however, they brought him out, had him just sit on a chair in the middle of the ring, facing the fixed camera, with his back to most of the audience. And that was all through the commercial, & then also his promo. Hulloooo!! We're all back here!!! (I know Goldust knows better than this -- I'm sure it wasn't his call -- just to be clear.)
What is the deal with "we must have purple ropes for cruiserweights"? We had the 2 cruiserweight/205 matches during Raw. Before each one, a whole flock of roadies had to come out & change the ring skirt (not that big a deal) & wrap all the ring ropes with purple tape. Broadcast is getting talking heads at the announce table or taped pieces, or commercials. We're sitting there watching the roadies in the dark. This clearly is what we're waiting for. And, of course, after a 2 minute cruiserweight match, the roadies had to come back out & change everything back. We did this twice during the main show. Do the purple ropes really add to anybody's viewing experience enough to warrant killing the crowd??
Did they actually fly Brock Lesnar & Paul Heyman to Phoenix just to do a backstage piece?? We couldn't have gotten a dark promo from Paul at some point, with just a walk-on by Brock? At no time did we get anything of them live. Disappointing.
For aftershow we got a quick dark match with Bray Wyatt vs Seth Rollins. After just a quick squash by Rollins, & no live appearance at all from Wyatt, that was appreciated, even though it was quick. Rollins did the "work the railing" afterwards.
I scanned through the show on TiVo when I got home, & in fact, there was less than an hour of wrestling for us in the 3:10 hour show. And more of that was just "fine", & very little "wow". Miz vs Slater was probably the best match of the night -- it was set up well, we got a Kurt appearance, they worked hard all the way through (Including the adbreak! I find it professional when I *don't* have to think "Oh, they're on commercial now."), Rhino was working the crowd -- it was good! That's what I want to see at a live show!
Sooo, gotta go get ready to head back downtown for SmackDown. We'll see how that goes! Promote this thread! | | lotjx

Even watching at home the only interesting part was the Mix segment into a match with Slater and Finn/Cesaro. There is no juice to Raw right now. They have pissed away the women to let a bad displayed be champ. The World title isn't even an option most of the time. Braun/Reigns is a bizarre face/heel dynamic due old man Vince not having a fucking clue anymore.
They have a shit ton of talent, but zero idea what to do with it. It's depressing to watch | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
