Anyone up for some last minute Slammiversary predictions?

For overall context on the card, since March TNA has been having a rather subtle invasion plotline. Back in 2015, TNA fought off Jeff Jarrett’s attempt to have GFW take over TNA. Detective Drew Galloway had found proof that GFW was secretly evil, rather than the babyface group they were pretending to be. That enabled the TNA wrestlers to have time to rally together to fight off the invaders.

Once again, GFW is sneaking in, pretending to be good guys. This time around, our dear detective got taken out by the conspiracy ahead of time, so no one has been able to prove that they are all villains. Josh Matthews, Ethan Carter, Eli Drake, and Lashley have been fighting individual rebellions, but not with enough unity to challenge GFW for control.

As a result after tonight’s pay per view, GFW will be replacing most of the TNA titles with their own, and the TNA name will be retired.

My guess is that they do the big heel reveal at Bound For Glory, with the next three months being build up to that.

It has been an enjoyable past few months, with the past month of Indian shows being especially fun.

Here is the card:

1. World Heavyweight Unification Match:
Alberto El Patron (w/ Dos Caras), Global Force Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion v. Bobby Lashley (w/ King Mo), TNA World Heavyweight Champion

2. Womens Championship Unification Match:
Sienna, GFW Womens Champion v. Rosemary, TNA Knockouts Champion

3. Grudge Match:
Moose and American Rules Football Player DeAngelo Williams v. Eli Drake and Chris Adonis

4. X-Division Championship, Two Out of Three Falls
Low Ki v. Sonjay Dutt ©

5. No DQ:
Jeremy Borash and Joseph Park v. Josh Matthews and Scott Steiner

6. Strap Match:
“The Corporate Cowboy” James Storm v. Ethan Carter III

7. Mixed Gender Full Metal Mayhem:
Alisha and Eddie Edwards v. Angelina Love and Davey Richards

8. GFW/TNA Unified Tag Team Championship:
Naomichi Marufuji and Taiji Ishimori of NOAH v. El Hijo del Fantasma and Drago of AAA v. Garza Jr., and Laredo Kid of the Crash v. Latin American Exchange 2017 (Ortiz and Santana, with Diamante, Homicide, and “the Hulk Hogan of Mexico” Konnan) of GFW (the unified champions)

Bonus: Who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame?
Names talked about in recent weeks include James Storm and Low Ki. Abyss, Christian Cage, AJ Styles, and the Litigated Broken Hardyz are also plausible contenders.

---

My take is:

1. Alberto “won” the title from Lashley via shenanigans at the first show of the new era back in March. The management (the League of Owls) didn’t want their heel turn to be done so soon, so they made Alberto give the title back. Alberto has been irked about it since then, which leads me to think that when the GFW turn does happen, Alberto might remain a babyface or at least a tweener.
To get his rematch, Alberto had to jump through a lot of hoops. First he had to defeat Magnus for the GFW title, followed by having to beat Ethan for the TNA #1 contenders spot, after previously being the first person to make Ethan submit.

With his dad at ringside, Alberto will finally win the big one.

Lashley tried to get President Trump to be his corner man, but when that didn’t pan out, he chose King Mo. The King is of course a character who pops up from time to time in TNA going back to 2010/11. Originally planned to be like Lashley and have both TNA and MMA fights, he wound up being limited to special appearances. The last time he showed up was in 2014 as part of the Dixie Land stable. He proved to be an ineffective bodyguard for Dixie.

Winner: Alberto El Patron becomes the unified champion

2. To get here Sienna defeated Christina Von Eerie for her GFW title. Shame to see Christina get written off so quickly. Sienna has been spending most of her time being a good friend to Laurel Van Ness, and punishing that homewrecker Allie. Rosemary has decided to start protecting Allie, since the rest of Rosemary’s Decay nest was wiped out by LAX.

Both Sienna and Rosemary are fierce opponents, but Rosemary seems more committed to the intensity. Could go either way.

Winner: Rosemary becomes the unified champion

3. This was supposed to be Moose unifying his Grand Championship with the GFW Next-Gen Championship, but Cody Rhodes has gone AWOL.

Eli and Chris have not been taking the match seriously, while the NFL dude has been. Good bromance with Eli and Chris though.

Winner: Moose and DeAngelo Williams

4. Sonjay finally won the X-Title for the first time in India a couple of weeks ago. But, I don’t imagine he’s the one getting inducted into the Hall of Fame. Low Ki has the greatest supervillain voice.

Winner: Low Ki wins the title

5. The build up to this has been perfect. Jeremy had been bullying Josh for no clear reason as part of the GFW takeover. Josh eventually turned more heel than usual. Jeremy had been trying and failing to be a babyface while Josh despite being a Jerichoesque heel was rocking as the hero.

Jeremy brought in Joseph Park as his attorney. But not being a real attorney, Park wound up challenging Josh to a tag match. Josh was fine with that, did a few moonsaults on jobbers, and brought in Scott Steiner as his partner. Scott has been skyping Josh in the middle of the night to troll him.

Steiner’s arrival terrified Jeremy and Park. They wound up watching youtube videos of Steiner’s number promo, playing with action figures, going to Chinese buffets, and doing moonsaults into Maria and Mike Bennett’s pool to train. When that all failed, Jeremy told Park to bring out the monster. Park then used Janice on Steiner’s action figure.
Winner: Jeremy Borash and Joseph Park, via Park seeing red

6. James Storm was on the outs during the Commissioner Music Guy’s regime. He formed the DCC stable to get back into TNA. Once the League of Owls overthrew Commissioner Music Guy, disingenuous James Storm turned on his stable and went back to being a “babyface”.

Meanwhile Ethan Carter III has felt that the new regime is undercutting him, and dishonoring Aunt Dixie’s legacy, so he turned “heel” to challenge them. He whipped Storm with a belt, so we have this match.

I have a hard time seeing Storm as a threat, even though he doesn’t need to pin Ethan to win. I give Ethan 70% odds to win.

Winner: Ethan Carter III, to build momentum for maineventing Bound For Glory

7. Davey was jealous of Eddie becoming singles world champion. And they got their wives involved. I’d bet on the most recent world champion, despite Angelina having far more experience than Alisha. Alisha’s relative youth (lack of injuries) might help her make up for some of what she lacks in experience.

Winner: Eddie Edwards and Alisha

8. LAX’s stated purpose for coming to TNA is to obtain vengeance upon the Broken Hardyz who had invaded Mexico a few months ago. As part of this, they defeated Decay for the TNA belts, and went on to win a tournament for the GFW tag belts. They were not permitted to go to India, so they launched a quest to defeat local Florida indie tag teams to become the greatest tag team in all of space and time. Now they’ve invited foreign tag teams to rumble.

I for one look forward to LAX’s eventual clash with the Broken Hardyz, or at least appreciate TNA’s enthusiasm for hyping matches with teams who are contractually unable to compete for them.

Winner: LAX defeats NOAH, AAA, and The Crash, to become the greatest tag team of all of space and time.

Bonus: In past years TNA has inducted heavyweights, a tag team, a referee, and a Knockout into their Hall of Fame. This year’s selection isn’t as clear as last year was with Gail. The obvious choice though is to pick an X-Division guy this year.

Going forward the omission of AJ will feel odder and odder.

Inductee: Low Ki

Lashley has been a good champ, but he doesn't seem to be into it anymore. He should be doing more MMA fights and leave the silly wrestling alone. Alberto's short time with this company has made him look like a major player and he's a good person to build the new brand on as champion. Alberto wins.

Sienna bores me. She has no personality. Pairing her with KM has turned into a good thing because he's actually funny and entertaining. Rosemary is awesome and should destroy Sienna with prejudice here, but I fear the shenanigans will come into play and she'll lose. I hope not though.

Eli Drake is an amazing talent and deserves better than this. Chris Adoins feels odd in TNA. He seems lost with nothing to do. He should in a tag team with Steiner or something after this. Let Steiner do for him, like he did with Petey Williams. Yeah, anyway, Moose and the football dude will win.

LowKi and Dutt will have the match of the night. These two will blow it out the water. I expect a 4 star match or better from them. Dutt will win, but lose the title over the next few days during the TV tapings.

The only thing good about Borash and Matthews having this match is that it allows Don West to return for commentary. I really enjoyed him and he's been sorely missed. The only real winner of this match is Don West. He'll get an extra paycheck this month.

EC3 and Storm should have a decent match. They work really well together. I'd like Carter to go over, but Storm will probably win.

I am completely not interested in the mixed tag match. It was stupid to split these guys. They are so much better as a team than separate. A huge mistake. Richards and Love have no on screen chemistry at all. Alisha and Edwards are almost as bad. This whole scenario has been stupid, honestly.

LAX Vs. the World should be the main event on the card and last an hour. Obviously, it won't, but it should. Potential to me Match of the Year, but ultimately will fall in the 3 star range and only last about 20 minutes. At least Drago and King Cuerno can (potentially) be seen by a larger audience than they do on Lucha Underground and the extra exposure could help them. Curious if LU gets a mention during the show.

I actually thought James Storm was the one they were inducting into the HoF? Could have swore there was a video and announcement about it a couple months ago.

Prowrestling.net had reported that Storm was going to be the inductee based upon Storm's video talking about the Hall of Fame. I'm not sure how they got that impression, since lots of TNA guys did similar hype videos discussing the Hall of Fame. It is possible that Prowrestling.net had gotten a tip of who the inductee would be, and then just assumed (without watching) that the video was an announcement of that.

I still think it will be Low Ki. Storm would be a worthy tag inductee with Chris Harris, or with Bobby Roode, but he was not a Hall of Fame level singles wrestler. (His two week title run was too short, and then he choked when he had his Lockdown rematch with Roode.)
