Rich Swann d. Lince Dorado
Zack Sabre Jr d. Drew Gulak
TJ Perkins d. Johnny Gargano
Rich Swann and his incredible theme music advance after Swann crushes Dorado with a Phoenix Splash. Very entertaining. They didn’t break as many insane aerial moves as they did in their respective first round matches. Swann got blocked on a standing 450 attempt, and Dorado did hit a reverse rana, but it was just of the standing variety. Weak. That was a joke. This was great.
Time for the Evolve portion of the show.
One: I’m biased Two: ZSJ vs. Gulak was match of the tournament. I had very high expectations for this, and they were wildly exceeded. The whole thing was amazing right from the start: I don’t think I’ve ever seen such *intense* grappling. Gulak isn’t just a wrestler. He’s an angry wrestler. And he’s awesome. These guys had me reacting so many times. They were fighting out of each other’s holds the whole time (Zack doing it with slightly more finesse). The reversals, counters and pinning combos were all magnificent. That slapfest at the end was icing on the cake. I love both these guys.
The story of the TJP vs. Gargano match was Gargano’s knee. A match that was taped in July. And the knee that was injured by The Revival this past Saturday. That’s some incredible continuity and forward planning. Initially, I wasn’t happy with the cross-show storytelling. Going in, I wanted the CWC to be “untainted” by the other shows. But I got over it pretty quickly. Also, it’s not like Johnny started selling the knee as soon as the match started – it was only after TJP started working on it. So this worked as a standalone match too. Gargano was awesome selling. Another awesome match.
The Elite Eight (I ain’t calling it The Great Eight) kicks off next week, but nothing specific was announced for next week’s episode.
Akira Tozawa vs. Gran Metalik Zack Sabre Jr vs. Noam Dar The Brian Kendrick vs. Kota Ibushi TJ Perkins vs. Rich Swann
I have no idea what to expect from any of these matches, but I can’t wait to watch them! I hope they film new interview spots with these guys.
An aside: Next time they do a CWC, I'd love to see the last three rounds all take place on one super-sized finale episode. Promote this thread! | | Tenken347

I liked Gulak eventually realizing that he was not a better grappler than Sabre, and resorting to just wailing on him. Also thought the other two matches were very solid. I'm curious how they're going to break down the remaining matches on TV, though. You've got 7 matches over three shows. I would normally assume the final would be a show to itself, although I guess they're could just going 2-2-3 running the semis together with the final? Because otherwise you'd have to do three quarterfinal matches, then a quarter and both semis? It's a weird breakdown. | SchippeWreck

8/31: Quarterfinals, Part 1 9/7: Quarterfinals, Part 2 9/14: Two-hour live special with Semifinals and Finals (and hopefully a spotlight multi-man, like PWG Battle of Los Angeles does)
Quarterfinals are being taped tomorrow night, so, at the moment, it's safe to Google the CWC without spoilers.

Forgetting about who might be signed & other such considerations, out of the last 7 the only guy I don't really see with a possibility of winning the thing is Dar. Maybe Gran Metalik is a stretch too.
I think the story of the tourney this far is that there is no story. 24 matches, 24 clean-as-a-whistle endings, without so much as a puling of the tights. Not really anything you could call an "upset" even.
I don't know how I feel about playing this one so straight-ahead. I get if you don't want to start with the screwjobs & Dusty endings, but have a little more story . Set up some feuds or bad blood. Have an after-match fight. Throw an upset in there (Dar over Sabre is the only thing that would stand anymore though). 31 good matches in a row doesn't equal "memorable." | J. Kyle

I was excited to see if Loon could avenge his protege Lee until I saw that was unlikely/impossible based on the brackets.
I was also hoping Gulak would savage Sabre post match or Ciampa would help Gargano even though Johnny Wrestlig didn't want that but if they are trying to create their own competition, an entire tournament of clean as a whistle finishes is a good place to start.
But yeah, one Bollywood boy trying to avenge the other, or a Japanese wrestler trying to avenge Sempai Tajiri or something similar would've been nice. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
