Second Round, The Sweet Sixteen
Akira Tozawa d. Jack Gallagher
Noam Dar d. Hoho Lun
The Brian Kendrick d. Tony Nese
The theme of the episode was targeted technical wrestling...almost completely ground-based, with Tony Nese providing a bit of aerial offense. We had Gallagher working on Tozawa’s left leg, Dar working on Lun’s left knee and Kendrick working on Nese’s left arm. Really good selling all around. A key highlight for me was Tozawa fighting through the pain to hold the bridge on his German suplex, but Lun couldn’t do the same on his fisherman suplex. Oh, and Gallagher tied Tozawa’a arms and legs up, trapping him in a human straitjacket. Yeah, that was also a highlight. Tozawa yelling while trapped in a ball was hysterical.
Very much a cool down episode following last week, with nothing actively bad. Kendrick/Nese was really good, and Kendrick continues to shine.
The second round wraps up next week with Dorado/Swann, Sabre Jr/Gulak and Gargano/TJP. This one should be insane.

Holy crap I have *never* seen a match like Gallagher-Tozawa before. Just an insane clash of styles that TOTALLY worked...Tozawa selling all of Gallagher's olde-timey British wrestling and comedy for a while, then turning on his lightning quick offense of his own. Loved it.
