I come to you as an (almost) 48 year old man with hardly any knowledge of this stuff. Help, please.

Twenty-five years ago, I started running sound and lights for local bands. Part of my job was playing music during breaks. I was constantly buying cd's, the latest music, blahblahblah. I have recently been digging into my old collection, re-discovering this great music. 400+cd's, just sitting around, boxed up collecting dust.

I started bringing some of these to work and listening to them. Ah, good times. So much so, that I want to go thru them all.

My question to you all is what would be my best way to listen to these digitally? Yesterday, I put about a gig of these old songs on my LG phone to listen to on my stereo in the man cave, via the Bluetooth receiver I bought for my stereo. Now, loading 400+ cd's onto my phone is not going to happen as I now only have like 750mb of space left on it.

First off: Can I use ITunes on my LG, or just Google Play?

Here's my (sorta) plan. I want to take all of these cd's and burn them onto our home computer. (I have a spare external drive for it that is more than big enough to hold all that music). I had read somewhere that ITunes would be able to access these songs and I could use ITunes to play them from anywhere that I was at. Is this true? How would that work? Does Google Play work like that?

Here's another kicker; our home cpu is a Mac. Would Google Play work on it?

Thoughts? Recommendations?

    Listen to the radio?

See, that's the main reason why I am doing this. Three years ago, our company moved to a spot in town that is surrounded by hills made out of granite, (St. Cloud IS called "The Granite City"), and we are in a steel building, effectively shutting off almost all radio waves coming this way, so my little boom-box is pretty much useless. I can get two stations on the FM dial, one of which is new music, (you know, that station that plays at least three of the same songs every hour), and another "soft rock" station, which: no. On AM, I get a local talk station that is ok, but I listen to KFAN, the sports talk station. Before we moved here, I was able to listen to them on FM, which was the flag station out of Minneapolis. Since our move here, I am relegated to listening to the local AM KFAN station, who a year ago decided that they were going to switch to the local sports talk guys at 11am for four hours, and these two morons are pathetic. I would just shut the radio off at 11 am, or turn Iheart radio on on my phone. I just have been getting a kick out of listening to these old gems of mine.

Now, help me out or shut your mouth, pie.

What I did in a similar situation last year was import all of the CD tracks into iTunes on the home computer. Then, in iTunes, I dumped all of the tracks into a single playlist. Google Play allows you to import iTunes playlists, so I imported that single playlist into Google Play, which allowed me to listen to the tracks on my LG phone.

I believe you cannot. iTunes is on PCs, Macs, and Apple mobile devices. Shame, because I use iTunes Match, which is what you're asking about, and that would do what you want.

Basically, I pay $25/year for iTunes Match and iTunes syncs my MP3 collection (stored on my home PC where storage isn't an issue) with the cloud, so I can stream any of it to my phone (or iPad) from anywhere. And if my computer dies, I don't lose anything because that music is still in the cloud.

I don't know enough about Google Play to know if they offer something similar. But probably?

I can't stand iTunes. I hate Apple's phones. I can't stand Google Play. I love my Note 3, tho.

I'd say: invest in a cheap older computer that you can use as a media server, or maybe a Raspberry Pi system. Find a geek who can set it up, and there you go. Convert the files to MP3 or FLAC lossless (if space isn't a problem) and you're set. Don't ask me what this means, I bounced this off my nerdy hubby's brain. He set something like that for the house and the office.

I'm lucky I married one.

I bought 128 GB thumb drives for under $50 this Christmas. You can fit a metric ton of albums into 128 GB. Then, just put it in your PC at work (assuming this is OK) and play with anything you have (windows Media Player will work in a pinch, which is on every Windows PC it seems).

Winamp is still available for download...

You can also get 1TB portable HD for under $100 these days, and all of your music would definitely fit on that.
