Man oh man oh man, this was good.

We start with Vampiro in the Psychotic Break Division of the Youssef Floro Clinic, getting what may be his discharge interview. He says he's no longer having violent thoughts then fantasizes about killing his doctor and the orderlies. He promises to take his meds and avoid the people and places that lead him down the wrong path. Matt Striker picks him up in a swank lowrider and tells him they've been invited back to the temple. But Matt warns things have gotten darker. Vampiro says he doesn't mind as he eyes his bottle of meds.

Catrina, in Cueto's office, gives Fenix a shot at Mil Muertes's title if he can get past King Cuerno tonight. Fenix's Gift of the Gods belt is at stake. Mil sits atop a Conan throne watching the ring, and he's super spooky.

Fenix vs. King Cuerno
Gift of the Gods title
Vampiro wins line of the night by saying "the drinking game has begun: brother, brother, and brother." Fenix dominates early, and Cuenro comes back just as I wonder how his star diminsihed throughout Season One. They trade superkicks (Does LU sweeten the chops and kicks in editing? They all sound like fireworks.) and Fenix does some amazing springboard moves by baancing and turning on the ropes. It's his thing. He can't get the submission off a rebound cutter facelock. Cuerno hits the TAKA Driver but can't get the pin. However, he later debuts a tombstone cradle piledriver for the easy pin and the belt. So much for his slide down the ranks. Cuerno, we suppose, gets Muertes next week.

Catrina tells Son of Havoc, Ivelisse, and Angelico that they must fight each other tonight. They refuse. But the winner gets a shot at Muertes and the big belt right after he match. They change their minds. Ivelisse promises to come after Catrina after she takes Mil's belt.

Catrina and Cuerno have a brief chat in the locker room. Cuerno's rodeo shirt is fantastic.

Son of Havoc vs. Angelico vs. Ivelisse
Number One Contender's Match

The crowd is split as the friends trade pinfalls and tosses. She breaks up a three-way test of strength after Angelico mocks her height. He pays her back soon after with a vicious running knee in the corner. She rolls away and Son of Havoc does that crazy shoulder rebound off the ropes before hitting both opponenents with dives to the outside. Inside again, he uses a slingshot stomp into a standing moonsault on Angelico. There's a ten-count slugfest in the ropes, and the audience counts in English. Come on, people. Both men go up, but Havoc tosses Angelico down. Ivelisse crotches Havoc and rolls up Angelico in a majistral and gets the pin! She gets Mil next!

Three guys drive around, looking for an underground fight club, and Black Lotus says she can show them the way.

Mil Muertes vs. Ivelisse
LU Championship match

The crowd is insane for Ivelisse, and, though wary, she is game for the opportunity. Mil shoves her easily, but she pops up to retaliate. Forearms do nothing. Punches do nothing. A standing guillotine is shrugged off. Mil ragdolls her some more. She tries a triangle choke, but he powers out again. She connects with a tornado DDT to get him down, and the audience is hysterical. Mil tries to toss her outside, but she locks in the hanging armbar over the ropes, and that hurts his wrist. This is important.

Catrina steps inside to distract her, but Ivelisse dodges a Mil spear that destroys Catrina. Iveliise schoolboys him for two, and you gotta hear this crowd. He blocks a hurracanrana easily and hits a Flatliner for the easy pin. But Catrina isn't satisfied. She wants another, but before Mil can unleash it, Prince Puma slides in and superkicks him. He drags Ivelisse out and taunts the pair, and from behind Pentagon Jr. (Vampiro's student, as we learned last season) sneaks in with a backstabber. That puts Mil down enough for Pentagon to go for the Fuck Yo Arm -- set up by Ivelisse's armbar, remember -- and he snaps it to rapturous applauds and chants of "Zero Miedo."

What does this mean for Mil's title defense next week?

Black Lotus leads the three guys to Daniel Cueto, who demands $20 each from them. Lotus smacks one of the around before they are led inside a warehouse behind Cueto. He uses that necklace key to open it up. The lead guy asks who's fighting tonight, and Cueto says they are. He closes the door and we hear them being mauled by Matanza.

I missed this show something awful.

Okay, first, let's just leave this right here:

Okay, you were clearly distracted by Cuerno's awesome rodeo shirt (and equally awesome luchador mask/cowboy hat combo), but Cuerno told Catrina that she had nothing to worry about, and neither did Muertes, implying that he was not going to cash in his belt for a title shot.

I was thinking Mortal Kombat, but either way, this was great.

This was easily my favorite part of the whole show. "There's no way you'll get us to fight each other!" "I'll give you a title shot." "Oh, okay, then we'll absolutely fight each other." It was such a perfectly in-character moment.

I've been hurting for LU really bad for like a month, re-watching major feuds and matches on Youtube. This episode made my bitter jaded wrestling heart grow to 3 times it's size. There is literally NOTHING to complain about in the first episode in season 2. Mil Muertes and Catrina win the big belt and just take over the place with her teleporting and becoming the Devil you shouldn't make deals with and yes, Mil is Shao Khan.

You want to make your champion look like the cock of the walk? Give them a fucking throne with holographic skulls arching over them always within view of everyone watching like a Mongolian ruler drunk on blood but becoming irritatingly sober.

Seems everyone knows how to make their female wrestlers (or MMA female grapplers) seem like the greatest thing in the world except the guy who's been in the wrestling game the longest.

I also wonder if the sound technician makes slaps and chops sound like muscles popping. I made high pitched noises each damn time.

Really love that new Cuerno piledriver and the fact that the Rudos have a chokehold alliance on The temple. Cuerno is officially a mid-boss if we are going to continue with the video game analogy.

I expected Puma to pop up at the end but I totally didn't expect my boy Pentagon Jr. to come in and actually break Mil's arm. Year of pentagon 2016, suck it nerds!

There are things I could question about this episode but I won't because I fully trust that they know what they're doing.

For a brief moment, I actually bit on the idea that Ivelisse would become the world champion. I was convinced that Rey Rey would make the save at the end, so when it ended up being Puma, I popped big. When Pentagon Jr showed up, I audibly cheered.

Thanks to a new address & bank, I was able to get the WWE Network for free to see the Royal Rumble. That show left such a bad taste in my mouth that I'd pretty much decided it wasn't worth keeping it around for Wrestlemania. I briefly considered keeping it for NXT but NXT isn't good enough for me to shell out $9.99. But if Lucha Underground was going the old TNA route of weekly PPVs, I honestly think I'd be okay with pay $9.99/week for it. (In fact, I'm going to look into the streaming options that do offer it to see if any of them are available in my area.)

(That being said, I just got an email informing me that the Network now has a playlist of New Day's favorite moments in WWE history, so I'm definitely going to be getting something to justify the time it took me to type in my bililng information. Oh how I'd love to see Xavier Woods in the temple.)

Ivelisse would still be better option than HHH as champ. I was hoping for Angelico or Havoc to save her at the end. I am hoping they don't break them up, they still have to go get the Trios Belts. Ivelisse and Catrina needs to end the season in a blood bath for the magic bag.

I was a bit irked they ended last season on a dark dour note, but it makes sense when the first thing they do is mangle Mils to give hope. It makes all his matches if he has any much more interesting. I do hope they don't have him win all season with a broken freaking arm.

When Rey pops up, I am hoping its in a big way. I am also wondering if they won't make him heel. This is the one place where he is not this unique fun thing thus a face. Here, he could be different like Hogan in WCW. He can be face for awhile then forms a faction ala the NWO to take over the Temple.

Jim Cornett has to be the most biter, idiotic bastard in this business to think this show is terrible. I can only assume he's just jealous that he isn't a part of LU and it's just sour grapes. http://411mania.com/wrestling/jim-cornette-rants-on-lucha-underground-it-isnt-wrestling/

I've avoided as much spoilers as I can about this season and I'd like to be surprised by whats coming, even though there are a few things I know of, which I can not wait for.

If Ivelisse had won, It would have definitely been believable. This is the only wrestling show where the underdogs could beat the monster and it not feel fake. Not sure why this is, to me, when it is obviously the fakest wrestling show ever (not counting Chikara, naturally).

Speaking of that, As silly as they are, I kinda want to see the Ants show up and go after the Trios belt. Someone should make that happen.

Why the fuck is it not next week yet?

EDIT: Added link to Cornett's ridiculous rant.

I haven't heard what Cornette had to say about this show, but assuming it's tantamount to the other things I've heard him complain about, it's purely a matter of the world having passed him by. A century ago, he would have been complaining about how stupid dialogue is because it makes it impossible to enjoy the music like you could in a silent movie.

I'm sure Cornette believes what he wrote, but he's also doing a controversial guest on a news network - he's got a podcast VIP subscription to push, he's got books and compilations and personal appearance, he's needs to remind people he's still out there. He was surely looking forward to the LU premiere to give him what he needed.

This bit where Cornette says the same things every few months, only subbing in a different target, and then people spend next three days discussing it is really gotten old. There's not a thing he said now that he didn't say two months ago about Joey Ryan, and there's not a thing anyone is going get out of having the same discussion again. But, there we are again, suckers falling for the same trick.

Unfortunately no - they're still not doing Netflix/iTunes/anything other method. There are other services you can purchase (fubo.tv, sling) but those cost as much or more than $10.
