I love the Rocky movies and was happy with how they ended in 2006. I was a bit more optimistic when I heard it was being led by Ryan Coogler, not Sly Stallone. I was all-in when I saw the trailer in July.
Saw the movie this weekend and it was fantastic. Michael B Jordan was perfect. The cinematography was like nothing ever done in one of the Rocky movies, particularly in the fight scenes. Tessa Thompson is a love interest who is more than a one-note character. And Stallone, here just a supporting act, gives an affecting performance as a character I know better than most people in my life. The music grabs you. Such a wonderful movie. Yes, it is formulaic in its approach, but not in a hokey way. There's a familiarity, but not the feeling of "here we go again".
It's not Rocky VII. It's not another Rocky movie. It's a Creed movie, and it's damn good. Go see it. Promote this thread! | | Big Bad
