| #1 Posted on 8.8.15 1318.13 Reposted on: 8.8.22 1319.50 | Man, I am getting lazy as the summer drags on. This is going up 3 full days later than usual, and I do not have a single good reason for it. Thankfully, while I have let you all down (as usual), NXT will not. We're coming out of the gate hot with the promised match between Charlotte and Bayley. We get a good, crisp start to this one, too. All main event style, until Charlotte eats a shoulder block that knocks her down. It's really only worth mentioning because she kips up to her feet, and when you're as tall and lanky as Charlotte, there's plenty of time to watch that kip-up unfold. Charlotte goes on offense at this point, hitting a lot of her standard offense, including the figure 4 headlock takeovers. Bayley manages to lure Charlotte in and dump her to the outside, where Bayley's able to get back in the game. Bayley's also going for signature offense here, mostly shoulder tackles and elbow strikes. She hits a big shoulder block off the second rope, and then starts laying in elbows. That stuns Charlotte long enough for the first suplex of the match, a T-Bone that gets some pretty impressive distance. Bayley sets Charlotte up on the top rope and nails a hurricanrana, but that only takes her to a two count. They start trading forearms, but Charlotte gets the best of that exchange, and her neckbreaker/spear combo sets up the figure 4. She can't quite lock it in right, though, and is unable to bridge to the figure 8 before Bayley reverses the hold, and Charlotte is forced to let her go. Since the figure 4 didn't get the job done, Charlotte goes back to her dad's bag of tricks and starts throwing chops, but Bayley catches her and goes for a backslide pin attempt. Charlotte reverses that, but instead of being able to get her own backslide, Bayley twists it into the Belly-to-Bayley! Charlotte kicks out at 2! Bayley's not done tossing Charlotte around, though, and Charlotte gets a serious German suplex. Charlotte kind of shrugs that one off, and counters with a big boot, followed by a schoolboy roll that just whips Bayley's head into the bottom turnbuckle. It's a pretty rad move. Charlotte decides she wants to finish this match up, and gets up on the top turnbuckle. She's looking for a super Natural Selection, but Bayley's having none of it. She counters, and pulls off gigantic super Belly-to-Bayley suplex! It's a long, long way down from there, so it's no surprise that Charlotte stays down for the three count. Match Rating: Match Of The Night.
Seriously good match, only surpassed by the stuff they do at Takeover.
We go to a Michael Cole interview with Kevin Owens, and I have to say that the stuff Cole does with KO is probably the best stuff Cole's done in his entire career. The level of absolute disdain the two have for each other comes through at every exchange; it's great. Anyhoo, the upshot of this is that KO doesn't think that Regal will give him a fair match with an honest ref, so he wants to turn the match in Brooklyn into a ladder match. Yeah, okay.
Bull is backstage, watching Bull-Fit from last week. He's just like you and me, you guys! Well, maybe not just like you and me, because he doesn't think it's funny anymore. His job is on the line, and he needs to take this seriously. He heads into the Performance Center. He takes his cues from some of the other guys hanging around, and starts putting in a real effort.
Baron Corbin is out, and... no, no, no. Forget this. I'm done with this. Baron Corbin, come back when you're doing something. ANYTHING. Match Rating: Fuck Baron Corbin And His Squash Matches.
Bayley's in GM Regal's office. She's been on a roll, and she wants a title shot. Regal agrees, but he thinks there's one other person who might also deserve it, so next week Bayley fights Becky Lynch for the #1 contender spot.
Okay, so, here's the thing. I am eating my words on RAW right now. Charlotte, Sasha, and Becky are all doing pretty great, they're getting match time, and the matches are mostly pretty good (even if Brie Bella is still in waaaay too many of them). But here's where that mass exodus really hurts. Bayley's got a great story, but instead of taking the time to really sell this over the next four months or so, they've had to condense everything down into just a couple weeks. I just wish they'd had more time to do this properly.
Anyhoo. Tyler Breeze murders Some Jobber. Match Rating: No Real Point. After the match, though, is where things start happening. Regal comes out to make the official announcement that Breeze will be fighting Jushin "Thunder" Liger at Takeover. This is followed by a highlight package for Liger, that, I'm sorry I have to point out, mostly contains 20-year-old footage of him. He still moves like a guy ten years younger (which is absolutely amazing for any pro wrestler), but a guy ten years younger is still 40. I just don't have high hopes for the match.
Well, I'm a real downer this week. Sorry. Maybe this Apollo Crews (nee Uhaa Nation) will cheer you up? He looks good, he sounds good, and he'll be making his debut at Takeover.
A Finn Balor interview is up next, and he does not in any meaningful way answer the ladder match challenge of Kevin Owens. I have to say, not that it's unexpected, but the quality of promos since Dusty's passing has been notably lower. A lot of guys really depended on him, especially guys like Balor who weren't known for being chatty in the first place. NXT is a sadder place without him.
What is wrong with me!? I'm so, so sorry you guys! I swear I'll pick it up here, I swear. Next match is Dash and Dawson against the Hype Bros. Woof, that's not going to help me out much. No, no, stay positive. Dash and Dawson do a cool double headbutt to the spine. That was nice. Match ends pretty quick, though, when the Hype Bros. nail their move, which I believe I heard Mojo refer to as the "Hype Ryder," which I kind of like. Match Rating: Yeah, That Wasn't Too Bad. After the match, D&D decide to mess the Hype Bros. up, ending with a Shatter Machine. I do like the fact that we've got a lot more tag teams doing stuff lately.
In GM Regal's office (busy place tonight), the Vaudvillains are super pissed at the way Alexa Bliss exploited their chivalry. Regal grant them the rematch for Takeover, but tells them they're going to need something to take Bliss out of the equation. The suspense is killing me!
We catch back up to Bull Dempsey. Show a lot of things happening at once, remind everyone of what’s going on and with every shot, show a little improvement. To show it all would take too long. That’s called a montage. Ultimately, Bull pushes over gigantic tractor tire while all his new friends cheer him on, and the whole thing ends with a freeze frame of him celebrating. This is great, but now I really want to know more about the Performance Center crew. I'm invested!
Main event is Joe vs. Rhyno, and I'm just going to cut to the chase here. This isn't a great match. There are a lot of big moves, Joe does a danger zone dive and Rhyno hits his TKO on a dude even bigger than he is, and there are a bunch of real nice power spots, but that's all everything is here: spots. Nothing really comes together and there's not much of a story or a flow to the match. Just big guys hitting each other. Despite promising to choke Rhyno out last week, Joe gets the win with a pinfall off a Muscle Buster. Match Rating: Not The Match Of The Night.
Despite my frequent (and frankly, tiresome) complaining, this was a good show. Better at the beginning than at the end, but some shows are like that. It definitely seems a bit rushed heading towards Takeover, but everything that's getting set up looks promising.

Other way around sir. Bayley-to-Belly.

I was okay with this when he was babyface doing nothing. Now with the better than everyone, I can end it in less than a minute, & I'm bad ass at doing. Just no... blah!

Yes, we're getting rush job. Unfortunately.

Went to the rest room... missed this but apparently didn't really miss anything.

I'm probably no where a near as critical as you are but the the good out weights the bad in this episode of NXT. Main event could have been better but the opening women's match was some top notch women's wrestling! Overall, very good NXT this past week. | Tenken347

A quick review of Youtube clips shows that this move is very inconsistently called. Maybe it's like an Oxford comma, and both of us are correct? | InVerse
