Checked this out as early birthday present to myself last night.

I have to say how pleasantly surprised I am about how good this is. I had my reservations about Paul Rudd as a superhero, but he did a very serviceable job. And as always, Michael Douglas stole the show.

I liked the humor and some of the visual effects are jaw dropping.

The effects were good and I did like Paul Rudd.

But I didn't care for the three amigos sub plot at all. Perhaps that is a part of the comic books (I have never read any Scott Lang AntMan tales, jut Pym ones), but I found it quite distracting.

I hated that Falcon was made to look like a second class super hero.

thumbs in the middle for me.

I apparently stupidly walked out after the first one.

if someone could give me a synopsis - even in a PM or in the hidden tags - of the second, I would appreciate it

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read

Captain America and Falcon have apparently recovered/captured Bucky Barnes (all three characters are shown on screen). They say something about how they wish they could call Iron-Man but due to "the accords" that likely can't happen anymore and they may be on their own. Falcon says he knows a guy they can call, with the implication being that he's talking about Ant-Man.

Rocky III had less montages than this thing. Its good, but the wife also echoed AWA about the three stereotypical stooges. I thought they were ok. Rudd does his best, but once you see his face in the costume sometimes its distracting. Its a shame they couldn't just Tron Legacy Douglas to be Ant-Man through the entire thing. He was great.

A guy in a fancy suit fights a bald executive with a better suit who wants to weaponize it. Its Honey I shrunk the Iron Man. Then at the end he falls through some X-Men credits.

Seriously though, this was great.

Kate is gonna be The Wasp!

Was that a standalone post-credits scene or did they pull that from Cap 3? It happened so fast I have no idea what was going on. What was his arm trapped in, and why do they need Ant-man exactly?

Oh, while we're all discussing it I suppose I should say that while I didn't care much about the other two, I think that Michael Peña absolutely stole the show. He had this relentlessly positive demeanor about him that brought levity to everything. This movie seemed like it was trying to be way more comedic than any of the other MCU movies, even the Iron-Man movies. And if that was its goal, Peña has to get literally MOST of the credit.

Pena was so great I forgot how much I hated him in Gracepoint.

Lots of good jokes that got me to laugh but left the rest of the crowd silent.

Will always wonder what got Wright turfed, and will always want to see Wright's script that had Whedon raving.

But he kinda is.

This was my favorite part of the movie, as it tied in so nicely with the ending of Avengers: Age of Ultron, a movie I had just seen over two months ago.

I love how they are tying all these separate movies and characters together. It's like watching a juggler keeping all the balls in the air. Just when you think it can't keep going, Ant-Man ends up being good too.

My 10 year old son & I went on Sunday morning and he absolutely loved it. AntMan immediately became his second favorite Marvel superhero behind Iron Man. I am really looking forward to Kate as Wasp too.

Loved this exchange:

"Baskin-Robbins always finds out."
"Baskin-Robbins don't play."

Thoroughly enjoyable. In the same way that Captain America: The Winter Soldier introduced a 70's spy thriller into the super hero genre, Ant-Man brought a humorous heist film into the MCU.

Enjoyed the comedy, the effects, and the performances.

I have nothing negative to say about this movie. I went with my 10 year old and we both loved it. I was pleasantly surprised how much I bought into Paul Rudd as a super hero. I never thought I would.

Great cast, quick moving, good fight scenes. Just a well done movie.

Big thumbs up.

I want to see Rudd and Pratt and Batista teamed up in the Infinity War. Maybe with Gillian Jacobs as Carol Danvers.

If I had to guess, I'd say the references to Titanic, the Andy Griffith Show and the joke involving the Cure's "Disintegration" all seemed pretty Wright-esque. Looking big-picture, it might've simply been that Wright wanted more of a straight-forward comedy and wasn't keen about necessarily linking Ant-Man to the greater MCU as a whole.

Falcon was kind of the only choice as an Avenger who was just powerful enough to give Ant-Man a competitive fight, rather than have it be a rout either way. Falcon's tracking goggles allowed him to hang with Ant-Man, whereas the likes of Cap, Black Widow and Hawkeye would've had no chance of beating Scott given the rather awesome nature of his suit's powers. (On the flip side, Iron Man/War Machine/Thor/Scarlet Witch/Vision are all TOO powerful due to better tracking devices, more firepower and/or magic, and would've wiped the floor with Ant-Man.)

I'll give you Ant-Man over Hawkeye pretty easily. Ant-man over Black Widow makes sense too. But there's no way Cap loses that fight. I know Cap's just a guy with super strength, so he loses the Tale of the Tape, but I would say he's so perfectly honed and experienced that he figures out how to beat Ant-Man.

But yeah, everyone else obliterates him.

Watched this yesterday with my daughters and a neighbor's son. All of us loved it, although my younger daughter didn't like the lamb shrinking parts. Best unison combined cheer/giant laugh from them was during the training montage where Scott finally landed a shot, only to be wrapped in the submission hold. All of us were roaring as he rapidly tapped out.
