| #1 Posted on 11.6.15 0842.56 Reposted on: 11.6.22 0843.15 | They're hyping up tonight's main event something fierce - it's going to be Samoa Joe's NXT in-ring debut. I can't wait to see what formidable opponent they have lined up to test the brash new challenger!
Before that, though, we have somebody else making their NXT in-ring debut - Zack Ryder! I can really get behind this, because NXT is a great place for him to remind people how good he is in the ring and really redefine his character and get back over and oh no he's teaming with Mojo Fucking Rawley. I thought we were done with this dude, we haven't seen him in, geez, nearly a year I think. The two of them are taking on Some Jobbers, so no doubt what's going to happen here. Mojo starts with, I guess we're going to call that "dancing?" Time to be fair to Mojo: in his time away, he's actually really improved. He's got better cardio (he didn't blow up before the match began, for starters) and he's a lot more crisp with his moves. Still though, I'm not sure he's actually improved enough for anyone to, y'know, like him. Ryder comes in and hits the Broski Boot, and then they set up an atomic Rough Ryder for the pin. Match Rating: I Never Wanted This For You, Zack Ryder. Afterwards, they celebrate out in the crowd with like 10 guys wearing Mojo Rawley shirts. If they are not his immediate family, I have no idea what's gone wrong with the world.
We get a pretty slick Finn Balor promotional piece afterwards. It does a pretty good job of bridging the idea of what the demon is and how it plays into wrestling, so Doc Unlikely should be happy about it. However, it ends with "Finn Balor arrives, July 4th," which I feel is giving the game away regarding that title match.
We also get a (ugh)Dana Brooke promo piece. I've decided that my biggest problem with her is actually how uncomfortable and self-aware she is on camera. Like, she can never just stand still because she knows that everyone is looking at her. It also stilts the hell out of her promo delivery, even in pre-tape. That's the sort of thing that should fade with time, but Dana is definitely a project at this point.
Next match is Evil Emma vs. Blue Pants, who is, no joke, one of the most over women on a roster of very over women. People love her. Well, not Emma. Emma makes a face like she bit into a lemon, because her whole gimmick is that she's no longer down with these kinds of shenanigans. Anyhoo, it's a pretty good match, actually (in fact, spoiler, it's the best match of the night). Emma starts by putting the boots to BP, and she's added the "snap hair" move we saw last week to her permanent moveset. BP counters with some slick roll-ups, but they don't get the job done. She lays in a triad of roundhouse kicks, and then an elbow drops takedown that's about as close to a finisher as she has. I say "as close to" because we know who's being kept strong here, and sure enough, Emma recovers, mounts a quick comeback, and wraps things up with the EmmaLock. Match Rating: Seriously, This Winds Up Being The Match Of The Night.
Enzo, Cass, and Carmella are backstage, running their mouths about Blake, Murphy, and Bliss. The upshot is that there's the inevitable six-person match next week, but the real story is how far along Cass has come as a performer on the mic. This time last year he was dieing a slow death. A couple of months working with Enzo again, and he's a guy who they've got to see tremendous upside in. Good for Cass.
Back to the ring, and we've got a match between Bull Dempsey and Tyler Breeze. No face here, huh. I said match, but this is not a match. Bull slaps Breeze around for a while, but then Breeze slips outside and makes Bull chase him around the ring. After about three laps, Bull gets so winded that Breeze just chucks him back into the ring and hits the Beauty Shot. Match Rating: Actually An Angle.
Becky Lynch is out for a squash match next. Before the match starts, they replay the crowd's reaction to her loss at Unstoppable, to remind us that she is completely made as a face now. Her jobber's name is Jesse, which I notice and remember because of how completely unassuming it is. It's really out of place. Just Jesse. Anyhoo, for a squash match, Just Jesse lays in a surprising amount of surprisingly bad offense. For real, this girl is not ready for primetime. Becky answers back with her hammerlock suplex, which I note is a really cool suplex, and her legdrop trio. For the finish, she swings Just Jesse around in a move I have literally never seen before, and have no idea what to call. It's almost like a torture rack, kind of, but not quite, it's too low. It doesn't really matter, though, because it ends in a sitout slam that sets up the armbar for the submission. Match Rating: Can Anybody Help Me With That Move? It's Crazy!
GM Regal is in his office to let us know that KO will be at rinside commentary during Joe's match later tonight, but he's interrupted by Bull Dempsey. Regal actually wanted to see Bull, because he feels that Bull's conditioning has become an issue after his performance earlier in the evening. For the record, Bull is eating a bag of Doritos throughout this segment. He thought he was doing fine, up until the part where he lost. Regal takes his chips away and storms out of his own office. Bull fishes a candy bar out of his trunks and keeps eating. Bull is a big fat guy who does comedy now. Good luck Bull!
Backstage, Jason Jordan admits that Marcus Louis was not a good choice for a tag partner, but he's got a new guy now. It's not Gable, and Gable is pretty put out about this. He's ready, willing, and Gable! Jordan storms off, leaving Gable behind to add his own name to the tape marking off Jordan's locker space. This is actually starting to get a little creepy. Very Single White Female. That is an old reference that lets you know I'm old.
Baron Corbin's out to squash Angelo Dawkins. Since there's no point talking about this, let's talk about his entrance. On this episode alone, Corbin, Breeze, and Becky Lynch all have better entrances than literally anyone on RAW. NXT understands how important a good entrance is, and I appreciate that. Match Rating: Squash City, Bitch.
Kevin Owens is out at commentary making Byron Saxton very uncomfortable, so it must be time for our main event. Who is the mysterious challenger who will test the mettle of NXT's newest major acquisition?
Joe vs. The Jobber
Oh, come on! Really!? It's one of the Mechanics, not Dash Wilder, the other one. Really, this is what you give us for the main event? Anyhoo, Joe has new music, which is funky and cool and a really, really bad fit for him as a character and performer. In what has been the trend all evening, Jobber gets much more offense than you'd think to start, then Joe murders him dead. Muscle Buster, the end. Match Rating: A Jobber Squash? Really. Afterwards, Joe wants KO. He invited him to step in the ring and drop him like Owens promised to. Owens, however, declines. In his own words, "You can't just come into NXT and get a title shot after one match!" That's pretty great. Maybe Owens shouldn't have pissed off Regal quite so much though, because he comes out to interject at this point. Regal agrees that you have to earn a title shot (consistency!) which Joe clearly hasn't yet, but there's no reason why they can't have a non-title fight next week. So we will! Play Joe's music, and let's dance our way out of this episode!
Well, this one was pretty light on actual wrestling, and the main even, which is usually a very solid match, was all angle instead. It was a really good angle, though, and it looks like we'll be rushing the Owens/Joe match in so that it can actually get done before Owens is gone forever. Next week's match is one to mark on your calendars, though, and we'll see if it can't bring a little more wrestling along with it for the ride.

The smaller the pond the better off Zack Ryder is going to be, but I can't say I ever once thought of him as good in the ring. MoJo is the perfect tag partner for Zack, douchey people always seem to find each other. MoJo looked better than Zack tonight.
The Finn Balor piece was exactly what needs to happen to help explain things.
I'm really pulling for Emma. She got a raw deal the first time around, but I miss her bubble music.
Tyler Breeze is really treading water now and I'm afraid he is going to wind up like Bo and Adam Rose. I like Bull, I'm probably the only one, but I like fat guys in wrestling. I don't like fat guys doing an out of shape gimmick. This was dumb.
Becky Lynch fought Jesse Mckay, might have been an announcer slip up, but it was mentioned early. Jesse wasn't Dana Brooks bad.
Hahaha, fat people. Apparently they don't know that most of their ads during Raw are for shitty fast food and candy.
Corbin does suck. If you want a project big guy with upside sign Dijak.
Joe's music is so freaking bad. Surprised he is still doing The Muscle Buster after the Kidd incident.
Kevin Owens is just great on the mic because it is completely different than what everyone else is doing. Hopefully they don't change that.
Holy crap Joe-Owens next week! What's the catch?
ROH was better this week, but Owens fighting Joe right after Cena is really interesting. I don't remember the last time they were all in on someone like this.

Except it doesn't have to happen in NXT. Owens could have avoided Joe so the chase would continue on Raw. I'm guessing it ends with the match being thrown out, and they will continue their feud later anyways. There just isn't any money to be made on a quickie match like this is why it surprises me.
I'm guessing Owens beats Cena, draws with Joe and loses to Balor in Japan.

| #6 Posted on 12.6.15 0956.07 Reposted on: 12.6.22 0956.34 | I think the oblivious fat guy thing could work for Bull Dempsey. Him being the new Rhyno went out the window once actual Rhyno showed up. He isn't big enough to be an old school monster heel like King Kong Bundy or Vader, that role goes to Corbin and Rhyno. Jerkass fat guy is being dominated by Owens, people are adding "Shit" after his name during his entrance music. He must change it up or disappear.
Two things. Number 1 is before he became the character we know he tried out an oblivious slacker character who apparently lived with his mom and pulled a pizza slice out of his shoe and ate it. It actually got some laughs from the audience. Number 2, I think he and Breeze doing the run around the ring/cardio spot got the best reaction Bull's ever gotten. Crowd got into it and it was different. Followed by him going into Regal's office and him refusing to acknowledge his terrible shape has caused him to lose matches while crunching chips in Regal's face was legit funny. If he plays up the fat slacker who carries himself as if he's in star level conditioning and looks then becomes a comedic tweener he'll be more over than he's ever been within two months guaranteed. Millennials will embrace him quickly out of kinship.
Corbin is basically taller Reigns. The stoic expression and posturing, the 95% punch and clothesline based moveset, the placement of chest to full sleeve tattoos, the minimalist mic work, women going gaga over him and guys not getting it, even that little "drape the opponent over the rope and doing a sliding attack on the apron" move they both have. It's almost like they train together.

Wiki has her doing a "Leg Hook Sitout Suplex Slam," which doesn't exactly match what I saw last night but could be close enough. It's a move she apparently used when she was Rebecca Knox, and it was called Hard Knox, so it needs a new name now.
EDIT: Now that I visualize a Leg Hook Sitout Suplex Slam, that's just a Michinoku Driver! The move from last night was more a Back Bow-and-Arrow transitioned into a Sitout Back Slam. Convoluted! And *very* pretty.

Yeah, a sitout suplex slam is a Falcon Arrow, and it most definitely was not any kind of variation on a Falcon Arrow. Maybe, like, a half-crucifix sitout back slam? It's complicated. | thecubsfan
