This was a one-trick pony kind of a show, with Raw opening with dueling promos from John Cena and Kevin Owens. While they weren't as dynamite as last week's, they were still pretty top-notch. The idea was that both Cena and Owens wanted to put up open challenges for their respective titles. Neville came out to answer the challenge, declining Cena's challenge and opting to take on Owens to shut him up. This did not go entirely well for Neville, as Owens beat him in a very good opener. Neville kept trying for the Red Arrow, but try as he might, he just couldn't get it off and Owens polished him off with the pop-up powerbomb. Cena/Owens continues to be the best feud of the year so far and Sunday is legitimately a wild card scenario where anything can happen and whatever does happen will be perfectly ok.

The rest of the show, unfortunately, was dreck. The big story was Seth Rollins trying to show that he's a big boy and can win matches without the Authority. But of course, that's crazy talk, because no heel champion can ever win without Hunter and Stephanie, I guess. So Rollins laid out the challenge to J&J Security, but Ambrose-ference cost him that match. On the plus side, Noble and Mercury looked to be having fun actually working an official match again. But man, the angle with Rollins is just plain dumb.

Also, there's apparently a ladder match on Sunday, but the buildup was so by-the-numbers and lazy. Another round of Sheamus/Orton, with another DQ finish, to boot. Roman Reigns beat Kofi Kingston in a pretty decent match, I guess. And then Kane beat Dolph Ziggler after a Rusev distraction that saw him push Lana about five feet off the ramp to twist her ankle. Look, I'm not saying he should attempt murder, like James Storm apparently did with Mickie James on Impact, but maybe don't try to sell a small hop as a debilitating injury. Also, Lana, maybe DON'T SIT ON THE BUSTED ANKLE while waiting for Dolph to come up. Holy cow, this angle is just death for everyone.

Best part of the latter half of the show may be the Wyatts (or whatever the hell we're calling them now) officially adopting the 3D as their finisher. If they don't bring in the Dudleys for a quicky feud, they're out of their minds!

The Owens stuff is really good, but the rest of the show is complete shit espically the Rollins stuff. I understand making a guy a vulnerable champ, but they've made Rollins into way too weak champion and he's almost at Swagger levels and jobbing to the new stooges in a new low even if it is because of Ambroose. I'm not sure if they know how to book a strong heel champion anymore. It is too bad because I had high hopes for Rollins' title reign and the authority stuff just drags everything into the dumps.

Neville's rebound German and deadlift German on Owens were manly. He looked great in the loss.

Since the break of up Shield, we all hoped that Reigns/Rollins/Ambrose would be this red hot storyline akin to Austin vs. McMahon. Instead, we get JBL and the Cabinet where the Cabinet tells JBL what to do. Its not fun. That is the major problem with the Authority is there is no fun, because the bad guys constantly win. With Austin/McMahon and even the NWO storyline, the heroes would occasionally give you the hope that they can win. All the Authority has done has given you the feeling that any hope is temporary. Thus, its shitty viewing.

So I haven't been able to watch for a few weeks -- just read the reports. Why were J&J actually trying to win in the match? Was that explained at all?

Because last week Rollins said that he didn't need Kane, J&J OR the Authority to win. He could do it all on their own. This week, HHH told Rollins he could pick his own opponent. Then, J&J come into the locker room and forgive Rollins for saying he didn't need them. He blows up, saying I APOLOGISE? Rollins picks to face J&J in the ME. Noble has enough, says Rollins wouldn't be where he is if it weren't for them, (true), Rollins smacks him, Noble smacks him back and then JOEY FRIGGIN MERCURY SPEAKS: "and we're gonna kick your ass." Kudos to Rollins doing the jaw roll to sell Nobles smack as they walk away.

Now I know why they never had Joey speak. His manly voice doesn't fit the weasly J&J thingy like Nobles twangy kid-like voice.

I was wondering what music they were going to come out to, then THRU HELLFIRE AND BRIMSTONE, Kane accompanies them out, and that post-watch celebration by all three of them was glorious. THEDEMONKANE SMILES! I loved it.

This. There's still good wrestling, but Authority promo segments get the automatic FFWD treatment from me.

Ditto Cena promos. I'm pretty sure it's impossible to have a rational/reasonable discussion about the guy any more.

I liked the show. Owens-Cena opening promo wasn't as good as their work last week, but was still better than most other opening promos. The Owens-Neville match was good. Matt Tracker is right, that's how you make someone look strong doing the job. And those suplexes* were great. Rowan and Harper are great together. I think Harper would be more than fine on his own, but creative has nothing for him, and Rowan was barely treading water. The 3D hopefully leads to where everyone thinks it will, and when that happens I'll be ecstatic. I have zero problems with J&J going over the way they did. Rollins doesn't need to be a strong heel to be successful. He's the perfect Cobra Commander. His mannerisms, selling, and psychology all work beautifully because of his character. Making him a strong heel would completely change who he has become, and not for the better. The Ryback still does nothing for me, but he is growing on me the more they let him talk. Better than average show.

*Neville has the most ridiculous body on the roster. I used to think it was Rollins but Jesus, I don't think there's an ounce of fat on Neville. Impressive dedication. I still hate his cape, music, and that they call him "The New Sensation".

Rusev didn't push her, she pretty much fell on her own. You could argue Rusev crowded her to the point of her being distracted enough that she didn't know the edge was there, and I believe 1 of the announcers even brought up that possibility, but at no point did he actively push her off the ramp.

"The Man the Wellness Policy Forgot" (not my joke but it cracks me up every time)

The fact I didn't do something else after Neville-Owens makes me think I should get my head checked, I knew where this show was headed and stayed along for the ride anyway.

I don't know if the WWE intentionally put on its best match of the night (Owens/Neville) during the women's soccer intermission, but it worked out great for everybody.

Kinda dissonant for the announcers to throw to an extra long trailer for "Ted 2" on their "proudly TV-PG" show, no?

If Dean Ambrose isn't the #1 babyface by the end of the year, they are out of their minds.
