We start out with Chavo Guerrero in Dario Cueto's office. Cueto asks why Chavo is there, since he quit. Chavo notes that Black Lotus plans to kill Cueto's brother and has received training from Dragón Azteca. Cueto says Chavo was supposed to have taken care of Lotus but Chavo says Dragón Azteca got to her first. He notes that Dragón Azteca has promised to erase his debt to Mexico if he protects Lotus, but a Guerrero always serves the highest bidder and offers his services to Cueto in exchange for round-the-clock protection from Mexico. Cueto agrees because he realizes that Chavo is too stupid to realize that stopping someone from kicking your ass isn't a higher bid than convincing them to give up on wanting to kick your ass.

Our first match is Argenis vs Jack Evans. Before the bell rings, Dario Cueto makes an appearance. He notes that while Argenis comes from a wrestling family, nobody cares about him. (The implication is that he's in his brother Myzteziz/Sin Cara's shadow.) And while Jack Evans has made a name for himself all over the world, he lost his debut match in Lucha Underground. (A quick check indicates that Argenis hasn't won a match in LU either.) Since nobody has any reason to give a shit about this match, Dario Cueto decides to make it interesting by putting one of the 7 Aztec medallions on the line.

The match itself breaks down into a spotfest of mostly pointless, no sold moves. There is a nice moment where Argenis catches Jack Evans on the floor and powerbombs him against the metal railing. As Evans is hanging on the railing crucifixion style, Argenis slaps him down to the floor. Argenis also lands a nice one-shoulder electric chair into a one armed fire driver but that only gets two, followed by Jack Evans catching him with a backslide and then bridging over the top of him for a unique three count.

Fine match if spotfests are your thing, I spent most of it browsing Reddit.

DelAvar Daivari has some good news for Big Ryck. They've been granted a Trios title shot. All they have to do is find a partner. The Mack volunteers but Cage interrupts. Daivari asks what makes Cage think he's the better man. Cage demonstrates by beating the shit out of The Mack, slamming him back and forth between the lockers, eventually knocking one set over and slamming The Mack on them. Big Ryck wants to interfere but Daivari holds him back. In the end, Ryck looks down at his cousin but decides to follow the money.

Black Lotus is going through a locker when Chavo shows up and tells her that he's convinced Dario Cueto to allow her to compete in the temple and her first match is tonight. Chavo then tries to blindside her but she beats the crap out of him with her newly learned ninja skills. Chavo yells for help and Cortez Castro & Mr. Cisco run in only to get their asses kicked as well. Chavo finally nails her from behind with a 2x4 and pulls out a set of handcuffs as we go to commercial.

The Trios championship match is next. Angelico and Havoc keeping tagging each other out of the match. Ivelisse finally gets tired of not getting involved and takes a seat in the bleachers.

Nice spot where Big Ryck puts Angelico up in a delayed vertical suplex, Cage tags in and Ryck hands Angelico off still upside down, continuing the suplex (complete with squats.) They did cut to Ivelisse during the handoff, so I'm curious as to if they screwed it up and covered for it. (cubs, were you there for this match?)

In the end, Daivari grabs Ivelisse (who's in a cast) and while the referee is distracted by that, Texano runs in and attacks. A clusterfuck ensues leading to the Shooting Star Press by Havoc onto Daivari to retain the championships.

Angelico has definitely grown on me since he made his debut. (Against Cage, so I suppose he finally got a measure of revenge.)Havoc has been a favorite for many years, since seeing him in person on the indies. Ivelisse isn't able to do much because of her (I presume legit) ankle injury but she's played her role to perfection. I also like the fact that since becoming Trios champions, they've completely dropped the love triangle storyline.

Chavo, Castro, and Cisco (The New Crew?) bring a bound & gagged Black Lotus into Dario Cueto's office. He orders her to be locked up across from Matanza "so he never gets lonely again."

The main event is a submission match between Pentagon Jr & Sexy Star. Big CERO MIEDO chant from the audience for Pentagon Jr. Sexy Star gets a nice pop as well, though not quite as loud as Pentagon.

Good back and forth match here. The ending comes when Sexy Star has Pentagon Jr. in a single leg Boston Crab. Super Fly (w/ black & white face paint) runs in and Sexy thinks he's there to celebrate her victory, until he knocks her head off with a super kick. He then nails her with a sit out powerbomb and tosses her to Pentagon Jr before leaving. Pentagon Jr nails the package pile driver and then locks Sexy in a surfboard, before modifying it by pulling down on her head, drawing the submission.

Afterward, Pentagon Jr wants to break Sexy Star's arm but Vampiro immediately throws off his headset and shoves Pentagon away. They have a staredown in the ring but Vampiro eventually decides to leave as Matt Striker has what has to be the single most literary commentary in the history of professional wrestling:

"Vampiro seems to be conflicted. And while the cheers of the people will make Vamp's blood boil and remind him of what he used to be, the man that is Vampiro has made a different choice. As the servant was preparing for a sacrifice to the dark church of the poison mind, an unexpected force of light intervened. Now the question remains, what comes next?"

Seeing it in writing, it doesn't look quite as amazing but Striker's tone was so perfect as he was saying it, amongst a loud VAMPIRO chant, that I actually got chills.

After the credits, we see Vampiro in the bathroom, staring into a mirror as things he's said during past Pentagon Jr matches run through his head. "He's breaking people, he's costing family's money, man." "I know all to well what's going through his mind, it's not good." "I got to go to therapy, I have demons, I can't sleep at night. I did bad things to good people, I had to go to dark places."

Vampiro then proceeds to slam his head into the mirror repeatedly, shattering it. Vampiro's reflection in broken glass looks remarkably like Kane, but I have a feeling whatever is coming next is going to blow away any of the tormented storylines they've attempted to put Glen Jacob's through.

If they go the route of Vampiro trying to save Pentagon Jr from going through the hell that Vampiro put himself through, this could end up being an amazing storyline.

There were five hours of wrestling on TV in a 3 hour span last night, but I can't imagine anything came close to the last 3 minutes of this episode. That was truly epic.

The Myzteziz connection has only be pushed in passing - Dario's right, they haven't done much to make him interesting on his own, even though this is (bizarrely) his best in-ring run of his career.

This was like a comic book narration box come to life. As what happened. And the backstage skit was like thought bubbles.

I have...different...feelings about Vampiro getting involved in here, but I don't want to be a black cloud today to people excited for it. And clearly pretty much everyone there was excited for it.

I can very easily see how this could go badly, but so far they've shown nearly Paul Heyman-like abilities to capitalize on someone's strengths, so I'm optimistic. Especially if it results in Vampiro going crazy and assuming the place of Pentagon Jr's master and using him to go after Prince Puma and Konnan.

There have been several instances of them slowburning things and turning minor things into important points long after they seem to have been forgotten. All of Mexico coming for Chavo (if this were the WWE, I would imagine a skit where Chavo was standing on the border, behind border patrol agents, flipping off a bunch of luchadores skulking across the Rio Grande) is a good example of that. I have to assume that they're going to pay off Vampiro's hatred of Konnan at some point.

They can't pay it off with a match, though.

Not with a match between Vampiro & Konnan, but they can between their proxies, Prince Puma and whomever Vampiro selects.

They couldn't make it a hair-vs-hair match, but perhaps the loser's manager could kiss Dario Cueto's ass.

I'd make it a "if Vampiro's guy loses, Vampiro has to stop dressing like he's from the hood" match. You're a white guy from Canada, STOP WITH THE BANDANNAS AND THE PRISON JUMPSUITS.

Sexy Star lacks the polish of virtually all the other performers, but she's got the golden storyline. It took two guys to beat her this week, and Pentagon doubled down on the submission surfboard to make her loss credible without sacrificing stature. She's super over, and she's willing to take spots from guys. Hard to root against her.

Evans and Angelico are a little too similar. They need some distinction.

Son of Havoc, man. That guy has Ziggled his way to our hearts. When his team drops the belts, he has to move to the main event.

Pfft. Son of Havoc actually throws offense into a match rather than just playing bump machine and actually managing to do fewer moves than Kevin Nash or the Ultimate Warrior in a match (those being the Famouser, The ZigZag, and occasionally a DDT). I get why Ziggler is awesome, but still, less moves than Nash. Yep.

This show is the best show in wrestling. Period. Even the cheesier aspects of it rock as opposed to making me groan (just about any Cage segment where he beats people up like he's actually in a Robert Rodriguez film, or how Cueto really hangs out in that office the entire show). It may have been the folly of WCW in the late 90's, but I've never been this interested in Vampiro before.
