After just enough ads to make me never want to see it, I went ahead and watched FOX' premiere of "The Last Man on Earth" because I don't mind Will Forte and I was too lazy to change the channel while doing laundry.

It was...OK? There was a lot of belief I had to suspend but I managed to muddle through without worrying too much about the dozens of questions I wanted to shout at the screen.

I didn't know Kristen Schaal would be involved (awfully quickly rendering the title incorrect) and sometimes it's hard for me not to hear Louise Belcher when she gets shouty, but I like her so that's another plus for the show.

This really felt like an FX show, if you know what I mean. I dunno, I'll probably watch it if it's on Sunday nights but I'm not sure the premise can last. I also worry about how and when flashbacks might get integrated into the flow (if/when they do).

Did you watch it? What did you think?

(Nice easter egg seeing Jason Sudeikis in the "old" photo he hung up, by the way)

Unless she's playing across gender, I don't see how she affects the title.

So it's an adaptation of Knock (en.wikipedia.org) from 1948?

The first three lines are a complete story by themselves:

"The last man on Earth sat alone in a room. There was a knock on the door..."

The Zan have killed off all life on Earth other than pairs of specimens for their zoo of exotic Earth fauna. Walter Phelan is the last man on Earth, but Grace Evans, the last woman, is not overly impressed with him and maintains her distance ...

Needs 355 and Dr. Mann.

Seriously I thought it was great and so tonally different from anything you'd see on network TV, that it was immediately doomed to the Andy Richter Controls The Universe/Greg The Bunny/Tick Fox Sitcom Graveyard. But it actually had good ratings! So we'll see...

I was ready to give up just before he saw Schaal. We thought it was cute, and will give it at least one more episode. It's on the DVR anyway.

I couldn't block out Louise Belcher at all. I fell into the show the same way as you by not changing channels. My daughter gave up after the bowling in the parking lot. I think it was a little too male-centric for her. I will probably watch again. I'm still watching Backstrom, too.

Watched it last night and thought it was pretty funny. Then again, I love Will Forte. (The Falconer is the most underrated SNL skit in the past 20 years)

Yeah. Pretty much this. It has potential, and it takes most comedies a while to really start firing on all cylinders. Will stick with it for a while.

Though I'm a fan of Bob's Burger, I'm not a fan of Schaal at all. I find her super annoying. And given that one of the main points of the show is that she's super annoying ... a super-annoying version of an actress I already find annoying may be too much to bear.

I'm with CRZ on the "it was ... OK?" line. I read an interview where Forte said he was shocked FOX picked it up, so that may be why someone else said it felt more like an FX show.

I'll give it a few more episodes, though, and see how it goes. There were certainly some laughs in there.

This is where I was when I watched last night. I don't have anything against Schaal, but they made her character SO unlikeable that I almost completely wrote off the whole show until they started to soften her up a bit towards the end.

I commend them for not going the expected "last man + last woman = man goes gaga over last woman" route, but I didn't think they had to make her THAT annoying to get there and I was glad when Forte's character "dumped" her the times he did.

All that being said, I enjoyed the show. I've always been a fan of the "Last person on earth" premise and I like Will Forte a lot too. It stays on my DVR schedule for now.

I finally got around to watching it on the DVR and I liked it! I'm not 100% sure I'll keep up with it, but it definitely left a good first impression. Plus, Lord and Miller pretty much have the Midas touch these days, so I'll give anything they do some attention.

I was bogged down with questions too. Primarily:
-Where are all the bodies?
-Did Phil wake up to find the world like this, ala Rick Grimes?
-Why not just take another house when you've used one up?
-Why was Carol OK with taking a house after giving Phil so much shit for rulebreaking?

I'm guessing most of these will be answered over time, if the show is given time.

It's delightfully weird, and there needs to be more weird on network TV.

Well there's 3 now but only 1 man. Will this end up like Y: The Last Man?

Will Forte has said there is more or less a "twist" in every single episode.

That said, I'd love for them to come across Phil's sister with a Shakespearean first name.

Same here. Every new episode gets further and further away from everything I liked about the first couple, and more like everything I hate about most sitcoms. Doesn't help that I'm running out of reasons to like Phil either. I find myself FFWDing through most of it like it was Monday Night Raw or something.

The series is only supposed to be 13 episodes long (so far) so I'm TRYING to stick around just to see how it all ends.

Six now. What show will have a bigger cast: this or Too Many Cooks?

Didn't watch this week. Free HBO so we watched Game of Thrones. I am not sure if I will catch up with Phil Miller or not. Should I, Frosty?

But at least it's looking like they're ending the "Phil Miller is a Giant Dick" storyline, which was driving me away.

I hope so. I haven't gotten very far in this week's eps on my DVR because the minute Phil told the new girls that it was just him, I just had to stop it because...oh my god, what a fucking dick. I admire Forte's balls to create a lead character who's such a fucking douchebag, but jesus, it can make the show hard to watch.
