As awesome as I am a fantasy NASCAR challenger, I am as crappy a commissioner. Sorry in advance for the late notice about the fantasy league.

First off, the only answer I have heard on the previous thread so far regarding the lucky dog issue is a no from AWArulz. So at this point, it's 2(him & I)-0 against the rule. Remember, if you want to have it or want to confirm you're against it, let me know by Saturday the 21st. Once the picks are locked in for Daytona, so is the rule one way or another and it will remain that way for the whole year.

Secondly, to answer JayJayDean's question about changing the scoring, I really don't see any way to change it outside of the lucky dog on the edit page. I like the Yahoo scoring well enough and to look for another league with a different scoring system this year may to be too much to do and with too little time left. But maybe if someone knows of a league that looks more fun/easy to play for everyone, maybe we can try it next season. I even have an idea for a facebook league if you guys are interested in that next year but that would likely take a lot of prep and I just don't have the time to implement it yet. I chose the Yahoo fantasy league because we've always used it but I'm open to other options later on in the future.

Lastly, just to clarify about the Daytona 500 in particular: JayJayDean did a great job in describing the selecting and scoring of racers. The only thing is that selecting drivers for Daytona is different, as are (I think) all the other restrictor-place races. For the 500 in particular, points aren't given for qualifying so if you chose Gordon or Johnson, don't do it just because they're on the front row and you want to get some extra points out of that. The good news is that unlike other races, you don't have to choose your drivers a couple of days ahead of this race. You have until 1:25 EST the day of the race (Sunday the 22nd) to decide on your starters. Or if you haven't joined the league yet, click here (racing.fantasysports.yahoo.com) to join. Remember, the group name is The W Racing 2015 edition. The
group ID# is 2830 and the group password is crz2015.

*Whew*, now with that out of the way, let's get to talking about speed weeks. Or as I call it, Stewart-Hass Racing and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Week. As far as qualifying goes, I actually liked watching it. I can see where the drivers hate it but it is definitely more entertaining than the one car at a time pace that really doesn't really tell how well the car runs in the draft and takes forever to complete at the 500.

Other notes:

- Seriously, SHR is having a awful speed weeks. Smoke getting black-flagged, Kurt Busch and his legal problems, Harvick getting testy already with Jerky, I mean Joey Logano, and Danica crashing today during practice. And to top it off, not one of them got past the 1st round of qualifying. Outside of someone getting injured, I can't think of a worse start to the season.

- Dale Jr. sounds more confident about winning the 500 this year then I have ever heard him sound. And that is despite the change of crew chiefs. Make of that what you will; I'll make it as him realizing that at 40, this may be one of his very last great chances to win a championship.

- Jeff Gordon looks great so far in his final speed weeks. But while I believe he is a top contender for the championship this year, I'm not so convinced in him as the favorite to win the 500. At the risk of giving away one of my possible choices for the race, I believe that Matt Kenseth is the man to beat.

I'm going with Carl Edwards on this. Remember, when Matt Kenseth joined JGR, his first year he was just about unbeatable. A really bad Chase pretty much screwed him. I think this will be the #19's year to shine.

Here's another vote for no to the lucky dog. You picked 'em, you get the points.

Tough weekend to be a Busch brother. I'm not a fan of Kyle but I feel bad that he will miss the 500 and hopes he makes a full recovery.

At the same time, I can't believe that NASCAR still hasn't put safer barriers on it's entire wall surface at its tracks. I especially don't want to hear about the expenses involved; when you spend 400 million on renovations, you should have plenty to make sure the walls are covered. Especially at Daytona, where NASCAR lost Earnhardt Sr. and was forced to make much better safeguards for its drivers.

I'm a huge Kyle Busch fan...but I think Supersalvadoran has it wrong. NASCAR itself doesn't own the tracks that they race on, so the onus is on the track owners to put the proper safety barriers where they belong. It's up to NASCAR to man up and threaten to pull their races if they don't put up the proper.
