Video game blog Joystiq is shutting down on Tuesday. A lot of the PS (and previously XBOX and Wii) information that got posted here was came from that site. I enjoyed them - I really enjoyed how I could still just get a Playstation specific RSS feed long after they folded together their old minisites - and they'll be missed.

I was shocked to read the story (um... on Joystiq) when it was first rumoured. Very disappointed. I'll need to find a good news site to replace it and I've had no luck so far.

As someone who frequented WoW Insider (EddieB in those forums), this is amazingly depressing. Reading the site all week since the news broke has been miserable since all the circumstantial evidence (tweets by people in the know) seemed to confirm the rumours but the staff was (mostly) quiet. The site was gutted last year (right after hiring a bunch of new writers, too!) and it hasn't been the same since. Still, I enjoyed it. They weren't the first with news, and they tended to be optimistic about Blizzard stuff (except when they were negative), but their lore columns were some of the best. I think all the time that I used to spend perusing wrestling websites eventually found its way there.

#savejoystiq indeed, but at this point, what's left to save? Sadly, there isn't much money in gaming journalism. I'm hoping that there will be some sort of patreon so the staff can reunite (not that I have much to give right now...)

Joystiq lives in, at least in some sense, as Joystiq X Engadget. It certainly doesn't cover nearly as much news, though. Cubs (or anyone else), you found any suitable RSS-friendly replacements yet?

How many writers from Joystiq made the transition to xEngadget? At first I heard just one but I've started to hear that others are over there?

WoW Insider and Massively both survived through crowdfunding. WoW Insider is now Blizzard Watch (blizzardwatch.com) and Massively is now Massively OP (massivelyop.net). In the case of Blizzard Watch, the Patreon was so successful that they could hire back many of the columnists they had to let go of after AOL's budget cuts a year ago. This shutdown may be the best thing to happen to them.

Nope. I'm following Polygon on Twitter, but they're very obviously making a pivot to more general "Geek Culture" stuff based on what they post there.
