Merry Christmas from NXT! Well, not that merry - this is mostly a clip show. But there was just enough original content to justify the thread. Quick note about the episode numbers. Checking on the network, it appears that the (R)Evolution preshow was numbered at 253, making (R)Evolution itself #254, and last week was #255. I agree, this is dumb, but I don't get to make up the episode numbers, do I? Anyhoo, on to the show, what there is of it at least.

Our hosts are Renee Young and Corey Graves. In what I thought was a particularly cute bit, Renee promises to exclusively refer to Corey as the Savior of Misbehavior from now on. They're bringing us the best of 2014, which turns out to be nothing but highlights from (R)Evolution, which I can't really argue with when you get down to it. We wind up getting parts of the title match and the tag title match, but since we already talked about (R)Evolution, let's just take a look at tonight's original content.

We get a really cool video package of Adrian Neville's return to Newcastle, England. He takes us around his hometown, introduces us to his mom, and talks about soccer. Dudes from England love soccer.

After that, we get a Christmas greeting from Tyler Breeze, and a bit with Curtis Axle and William Regal. Axle wants to come to NXT, but Regal's going to make him wait until he sees "if they have room somewhere." I'm going to give Axle the benefit of the doubt for now, as I had no idea how good Tyson Kidd was going to be in NXT (and as a sad side note, it looks like he is gone from NXT for good, between not being on (R)Evolution and his recent appearances on main roster shows).

We get a neat little Lucha Dragons video package, and a repeat of the Vaudvillains package they ran before (R)Evolution. We also get a package on the talent that's debuted in NXT this year, which I really only mention because I want to talk about how damn good Finn Balor's entrance music is. I mean, we talk pretty regular about how good Finn Balor's everything is, but he's got such distinctive music. It's good, it stands out, and it makes him seem like a big deal.

Anyhoo, NXT does gift us with a match tonight. It's a rematch between Charlotte and Sasha Banks. Charlotte gets introduced by her dad, and he speaks the truth when he calls their (R)Evolution match one of the best matches in WWE, not just NXT. Sasha tries to jump Charlotte before the bell even rings, but the ref holds her back. Once we get a bell, the ladies pick up where they left off, with massive haymakers to the sides of each other's heads. We get some good back and forth before Charlotte gets posted on the outside, putting Sasha firmly in control. Charlotte rallies with a jawbreaker, but Sasha manages to regain control and hits the superplex that she wasn't able to at (R)Evolution. Ultimately, Charlotte gets the win with a Figure Four leglock, that she applies a crazy bridge to.
Match Rating: Merry Christmas to All, and to All a Good Fight! (Yes, I went with the pun, deal with it).

Seriously, Merry Christmas everybody, and I'll see you back here for whatever New Year's special they run next week.

While not as epic as their Takeover battle, Charlotte and Sasha Banks put together a really nice match with some great spots. Sasha using her legs to post Charlotte was unique. Charlotte keeping leg contact after the roll up from the figure four and slapping it on from a seated position was great as well.

The Curtis Axel bit was nice as far as demonstrating the importance of NXT, especially the part where William Regal basically told him to go fuck himself and Axel accepted that he was going to have to do things the right way. Corey Graves as a damn fine host, as well.

Where do they go with Charlotte from here? I realize they moved Paige to the main roster before she was stripped of the NXT Women's Championship, but surely they wouldn't repeat that exact storyline again with Charlotte, right? But she's now beaten Sasha Banks clean in two straight matches. Becky Lynch doesn't look to be stepping it up as a contender and it's too soon for Bailey to go after Charlotte one more time. They could kill some time with tag matches, but Charlotte really needs a new opponent. If they do go with Charlotte vs Sasha Banks again, I really hope they can somehow convince Sasha's cousin to be in her corner, just so we can see Snoop Dogg interact with Ric Flair.
