Not that it matters, but he was billed at 222 when he first started in "ECW." (Maybe it was just easier for the ring announcers to remember.)

A "legitimate badass" doesn't want to fight someone with no experience. You got that term confused with "douchebag with chip on his shoulder".
I've met JDF - he's far from a douchebag. He's legitimately one of the nicest people I've ever met. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have a chip on his shoulder.

I've seen people compare what Punk's doing to the same thing he complained about - a part-timer coming in and getting a PPV spot over a full-timer based on name value. But all Punk is getting is a shot - if he doesn't deserve to be there, we'll find out in short order.

(I suspect that's exactly what we'll find out.)

I met Jian Ghomeshi and he was the nicest guy. So... y'know.

But "a shot" is still more than, say, Askren's ever got from the UFC and I'm fairly sure he'd have settled for less cash than they'll wind up paying Punk.

He'll take a spot on a major (probably PPV) card when there's better fighters out there and get paid more than infinitely more talented men currently on the roster. He'll likely bring in more eyeballs too, but that would presumably be WWE's argument for bringing in the part-timer based on name value. There's definitely hypocrisy at work here, which is not to say I don't think the UFC and Punk are both doing the right thing.

Not necessarily true*. They're talking about sticking him in there with somebody with next to no professional experience, which roughly translates as "trying to find someone he can beat". They'll string this out for as long as they can before he gets found out.

*I mean, you or I could probably spot whether he deserves to be there regardless of who they put him in with based on performance, but there'll be a whole bunch of people who'll just see a W and think "OMG, PUNK IS 4 REALZ!!" and the UFC will play on that.

Sure, but that's got nothing to do with Punk. That's Dana being Dana. There'd be room for both of them.

Agreed, but I figured that Punk's problem was less about bringing in part-timers and more about bringing in part-timers and him having to put them over. He lost to HHH, Rock, Undertaker, and Brock, but was still expected to be a top guy who sold tickets, PPVs, merch, etc. I'm sure UFC will protect Punk to the best of their abilities but ultimately it's on him to prove he deserves a spot or else he'll lose it.

As have I - absolutely wonderful person. However, what's been said are accusations, and remember: innocent until proven guilty.

Yeah, but he's happy to take advantage of Dana being Dana because that benefits him. Less happy about Vince being Vince because that doesn't. It's not a big deal, just a useful reminder that the vast majority of wrestlers who moan about booking/politics would happily take advantage of the same situation if given a chance. He does have a bunch of other far more valid criticisms of WWE although if he thinks the UFC are bastions of great employee relations he's in for a rude awakening.

The major difference I see is that WWE's plan of bringing in "names" to attract new fans or win back old ones consistently looks less than successful. I'd have a little more faith in what the UFC are doing, albeit they have their own issues building stars just now (Conor notwithstanding).

Oh, for sure. If Punk got to beat Rock, HHH, Undertaker, and Brock (or even, say, 2 of the 4), there's no way he'd have been complaining about it. His Mania ideas - beating Undertaker, being added to Cena vs. Rock - were all focused on what's best for CM Punk. I don't blame him for doing it because it's not like anyone else was going to do it for him.

I suspect UFC will be great to Punk - he's already famous, he doesn't need them, and he'll happily run his mouth if they mistreat him. But in general, 100% agreed - neither UFC nor WWE are great places to work unless you're one of the very top guys. Though UFC is at least kind of sort of a meritocracy where you're slightly less subject to the whims of a senile old man.

If this is still a thing you are interested in, CM Punk talked to Rolling Stone about this move and the reaction to it.

He's making reporters tag along with him to Walgreens!

I can't wait to see which gym comes to him.
