| #1 Posted on 1.12.14 0113.02 Reposted on: 1.12.21 0114.34 | I just realized that cop that tricked Sasha last week is Agent Sitwell from Captain America: The Winter Solider! Poor Sitwell, though, got ran over by Rick Grimes. Rick told him to stop several times. Rick ended up executing him, too. That's Rick's answer to everything. Kill.
The other 2 cops are willing to help him lie that Sitwell got killed by Walkers just so Rick doesn't execute Plan B of going into Grady and murdering everyone.
Preacher guy stumbled to the school were the Terminus guys were BBQ-ing Bob's leg. He is chased by a shitload of walkers who finally broke through the glass. Of course, he leads them back to the damn church and cries for Carl and Michonne to open up the front door. And of course, they do. So the Zombies flood into the church and Preacher holds them off using a single chair propped on a door for the room he used to escape. There was a machete cleverly propped up while Carl, Judette, and Michonne crawls under the floor out and as the Preacher was about to get attacked the Zombie fell right into the propped machete. Nice visual.
Michonne "seals" the zombies into the church with a small piece of wood which they easily broke off from the door. Luckily Glenn's crew came back just in the nick of time. They tell Maggie that Beth is still alive and they all head off to Grady with the Fire truck.
Dawn and Beth talk about all the things that happened and how Dawn saved her so many times. Of course, an asshole cop who pushed down an helpless old man earlier was listening the whole time. Dawn and the cop fist fight as her weapon fell down the elevator shaft. Beth eventually pushed the cop down the elevator opening to his death. Second cop she has killed.
Rick got a hold of a couple of the cops and gave them his terms. They eventually have a big prisoner exchange. Everything went pretty smoothly until Dawn wasn't happy with the deal and wanted Noah back. Daryl and Rick were not cool with that. Noah volunteered to go back just to avoid this standoff. Beth gives him a big hug but when Dawn mouthed off that she knew Noah would be back, Beth snapped and stabbed her with a tiny pair of scissors that couldn't hurt anyone so of course Dawn shoots her in the damn head! She tries to explain that she didn't do it on purpose but Murderin' Rick shot Dawn in the head as a reaction, too. Damn. Everyone is crying. The female cop Rick captured and released got the rest of the cops to lower their weapons. Carol got Daryl to lower weapon. Rick told the Grady folks they are free to come with them but no one went.
The fire truck made it to Grady... man, everyone has unlimited gas... just in time for Rick's group to exit the hospital. Rick's shaking his head. Poor Maggie was so happy to see her sister but instead saw Daryl carrying Beth's dead body.
After the end credits, Morgan is seen walking around the school, then the church. He picks up the map (to DC?) and see Rick's name on it.
The Walking Dead returns in February. With Noah and the Preacher in the group now, they sure have a lot more African American characters instead of just T-Dogg who died so they can bring in Oscar, who died so they can bring in Tyrese. lol Promote this thread! | | The Guinness.

The wife had tears streaming out of her eyes with the hospital hallway scene. I had something in my eye when that happened too. Some dust or something. The loss of Beth was expected by many but they still executed on creating a great moment for her end.
For me, this season has been a bit on the slow side. Hopefully it picks back up to the pace of the first few episodes of this season. Of course some charachter development had to occur, I just think they could've written the stories in a better way. Intertwining them instead of doing isolated group episodes.
Another Morgan end credits.

You are right, I just rewatched it again. Rick got splattered by Beth's blood and Daryl pulled a gun out and shot Dawn in the head.

| #4 Posted on 1.12.14 0738.39 Reposted on: 1.12.21 0738.44 | I think this 'shocking' death would've been more 'shocking' had I not seen some of the 'tear jerking mid-season finalé' headlines leading up to the show. So it seemed pretty clear, as the episode progressed, that the hand-off would go wrong and that at least one 'recurring character' would get off'd. And as the episode kept going, Beth seemed like the best candidate to take the bullet.
I kind of a agree with the AV Club's review (avclub.com) - this seemed like a shocking death for the sake of a shocking death - and not a death that served the plot. We've followed a lot of these characters since Season 2 (at least), so if they're going to perish, then it needs to feel like it serves a purpose, and not because you need to kick the audience in the gut. This felt way more like the latter.
The hospital situation still seems like a total mystery to me. That last scene after Beth's death, it seemed like there were more guards than patients. And Dawn's story seems like just another take on The Governor/Gareth/Shane etc. There are corrupt leaders who exploit others for survival. Okay. Point made. I get it. Can we do something else now?
As far as the other moments, Rick running down that cop was some cold shit. And Gabriel's discovery of Bob's Left Foot was kind of cool (if not really gross) - as was his realization of what the world around him has become. But the rest of the episode really fell flat, and we lost a great character in the process, so, all in all, it was a bummer for me.
And Morgan is the slowest hiker ever. | Matt Tracker

| #5 Posted on 1.12.14 0824.02 Reposted on: 1.12.21 0828.54 | They botched this hospital story up and down. Where do they get water? How do they run the generators? How much gas can they have grabbed to run their cars and equipment? The walkers have been around for about a year (based on Judith's conception age), and this group has managed to thrive in a hospital in a major city overrun with the dead. They're watching DVDs! This show is all about resource management, and the details are lacking here.
Beth's death was diluted by a lack of character development since she left Daryl's side. The story instead was designed to build up Dawn. HER death had more wallop than that of a character we've seen since the second season. It was a pair of clumsy deaths that seemed arbitrary just to give this subplot some sort of heft, and it didn't resonate with me.
Gabriel has gotta go. At least Eugene is crafty. Gabriel has managed to retain his naivete about the world and how to survive in it for the same amount of time as the hospital has been running. His isolation and a lot of canned food have left him useless. Tyresse is the true spiritual center of the group; Gabriel offers nothing. His predicament outside the church nicely paralleled those he condemned to death, and it shows the worth of Michhone and Carl that they didn't hesitate to save him when let others die. So in all ways he's inferior to those in the group.
With Beth's death we've cleaned up all the post-prison storylines. Carol's back. Bob is gone. Judith is back with the Grimes boys.
Now we need to find out why the group would willingly go back to the sticks when a similarly sized group can survive with utilities in Rotlanta. | Greymarch

There are A LOT of things they could do that would make for a boring TV Show. People were crying when they stayed at the farm for a long time. Imagine a TV Show about Grady. I don't think anyone would watch that. | oudom

Dawn on the exercise bike was one of those scenes that just had me shaking my head. Really? Can't run some stairs instead?
I think you could argue that they had, at their disposal, the full resources of a large metropolitan hospital and they were all of a dozen people. So yeah, maybe watching DVDs and exercising ain't the best use of electricity, but they probably felt they weren't running low, either. It's one of those things in which a throw away line would go a long way to resolving the little details.
But I don't think any of that matters - the important part was that the use of resources to keep people in check seemed to be the focal point, and yet none of *THAT* was really explained, either. The whole hierarchy made no sense, and it seemed that everyone disliked Dawn and yet she made a whole bunch of unilateral decisions in spite of all of that underlying opposition. So people feared/respected her because she killed the last guy in charge? That's it? Really?

I disagree. I think you need to give these characters a chance. Not everyone is going to be an Abraham. And if nothing else, both Eugene and Gabriel (and Noah, for that matter) aren't the Alpha (Fe)Male archetypes that tend to dominate the story line. | Matt Tracker

If they would give us a reason to like the man. He's as useful as Judith. At least she has a reason to exist, being the embodiment of hope and all. If it was suggested that he's diminished because of long-term isolation, then ... well hell, now we got Morgan for that. Noah could at least help the gang round up supplies before they leave town.
The season started with a possible haven left in ruins (Terminus) and ends with a temporary shelter of the church ruined (because of Gabriel who enrages me to bits) and the hospital surrendered intact. It feels like we burned through potential havens to maintain a nomadic stats quo, and Beth's death was wasted as a last-second swerve. So far anyway. We'll see how Daryl and Maggie deal with it. | SchippeWreck

| #14 Posted on 1.12.14 1527.04 Reposted on: 1.12.21 1527.09 | I was trying to figure out who Beth died until I came here. I thought someone shot her from the police or unseen assassin, because I didn't see Dawn have her gun out. Regardless, I think Rick staying at the hospital is silly since you know the cops will eventually turn on him. It was a weird Wizard of Oz moment when the cops turned good after the Wicked Witch was killed. I liked Beth, not in love with her. I thought it would be Carol at the end considering she was the new bad ass to start the season.
Kirkman seems to be in the graduate school of G.R.R. Martin's school of killing characters for no reason other than just because. Joss Whedon has a Doctorate in it. It was pointless. They could have kept Dawn around and maybe did a few episodes going back to the hospital where the cops turn good and Noah dispatch her, but no. Just Noah leaving with Rick makes no sense. | The Guinness.

| #15 Posted on 2.12.14 0212.30 Reposted on: 2.12.21 0212.40 | Lotjx, good call The Wizard of Oz reference. That is basically exactly what it was like with Dawn.
As I mentioned earlier, my house had some high levels of dust in the air (even after some heavy cleaning due to hosting Thanksgiving) that caused some strange watery substance from eyes. The thing that got me was not Beth dying but more Daryls reaction to it.
The whole story arc with Beth was slow but still rushed at the same time. Through the writing we (I) felt 100% that either Beth or Carol (or both) were going to meet there demise during the Mid-Season Finale.
What got me was Daryl's immediate reaction to it. Stab, bang, reaction on Daryl's face, boom.
Daryl has been slowly taking over as the "moral compass" on the show. His actions this season with showing Carol that there is still hope by catching her getting ready to leave, chasing the medic cross laden car (Dodge magnum?) handling the battered Mother/Daughter walkers at the shelter, knocking the gun aimed at Noah down and then ultimately saving Noah (Bookcase/Walker/Noah). Then he he convinces Rick to not shoot the cop that he bashed with a walker skull. Three cops are better than two as hostages.
Couple that with last season with Daryl holding Rick back during the Tyrese confrontation about the burned bodies, his relationship with Carol and his protection of Beth in the later episodes. Moral Compass.
If there was any good writing with this story arc, it was all about badass Daryl. In one scene he tied it all together for me. Hell, just one facial expression and a pull of a trigger. Slow story telling and bad editing not withstanding, Daryl is what this has been about.
Of course, in this story, that would mean Daryl better be watching his back. Until then I've joined the "Daryl is my Hero" fan club. Down the road, I hope that he has scene with a rope, just so somebody can say "Name one thing you're gonna need this stupid fucking rope for".
Frag, I'm in love with Daryl.
