it was a fun year of playing and a very entertaining sprint cup finish. I like this way of determining the champ.

Super fun race today, though. I was a skeptic about the new format but the cautions fell right and the last few teams were all up near the front all day. It remains to be seen if this ends up being the norm, since the previous three 1.5-mile tracks had pretty good beatdowns, but so far NASCAR's one-for-one. They were also one-for-one with the first Chase in 2004, but that was followed by tinkering and then format obliteration. | Whitebacon

Umm, no. You just won a segment trophy just like the Spring and Summer segment winners did.
The full season point leader is the true winner.

Congrats Swampy on your victory. You and JJD have knocked me out of Victory Lane after I've been there the last 3 seasons.
I bow to both of you.

It was a cool experience - we were 30 rows up right across the entrance of pit road. The quality of the race was helped by the four championship contenders being in the top 10 pretty much all day. We were rooting for Hamlin and those around us thought he had it locked up when he stayed out while Harvick got four tires and Newman got two, but in hindsight, that was a really bad move.
We rented scanners and headsets for $35 - really fun to hear the drivers, CC's and spotters but I thought the most interesting channel was NASCAR Control. With how loud it was, I don't know how people can get by without wearing any kind of ear protection.

I'm still not totally sold on the new chase. It never did slove two of the biggest problems: changing out some of the more boring, repeatative racetracks and preventing teams from colluding to advance their teammates like Bowyer did last season. But the finale was thrilling to watch and I'm glad for Harvick winning. He's going to be a great champion. | dunkndollaz

It was all about spacing out my starts and getting lucky in the weeks when I rolled the dice. I knew that I could catch Pieman but still don't know how I caught JJD

Let's just say yes
surprising thing of this year? 6 Jimmie Johnson starts left. Harvick, Kes, Joey and Larson used up and a few others like Gordon and Hamlin close.
2015 looks interesting: Ambrose gone, edwards changing teams (is the 99 dead?), and Johnson entering the last year of his contract with Hendricks. My call right now: Johnson wins#7 next year.

The 99 is becoming the 6 with Trevor Bayne driving.
I can't imagine Jimmie's going anywhere (unless he retires, I guess, but I can't see that), but the interesting thing is Hendrick resigned Kasey Kahne through 2018 the other day, so that appears to leave Chase Elliott in the old Brad Keselowski "sorry no Hendrick cars for you to drive"-spot. | AWArulz

Both mistakes, if you ask me, Kahne's a upper midcarder at best, I don't think he's ever going to be a champion. And Bayne's got promise, but with the MS his career has to be shortened. And symptoms could arise quickly that would put him out of a race. Jack better have a good relief driver in the bag most races. Has Bayne run a full schedule yet? He ran a lot of Nationwide and about a dozen Sprints - let's see how he even does with a full schedule. | JayJayDean

It's crazy to think Kasey won six races in one season. I think he's a really good driver, but I'm biased because his hometown is a short drive from me. I don't know if he and Kenny Francis just couldn't get together on the latest version of the car or what. Keith Rodden made good speed with Jamie McMurray, so I'd think he could help Kasey a lot.
I don't think you're right about Trevor, healthwise. He's run plenty of back-to-back Nationwide/Cup weekends and never been pulled from the car that I can recall. To be honest, I don't even know how to rate the guy. He's still like 24, and Nationwide success doesn't necessarily translate to Cup. (/looks over at Ricky Stenhouse)
I think Jack's real problem is that now Greg Biffle is the "veteran" driver of the group and I don't think that role suits him like it did Kenseth. They aren't even close to being as good as Penske. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
