Cardinals outfield prospect Oscar Taveras, who debuted in the majors this season and homered for St. Louis in their only NLCS win, was killed in a car crash in the Dominican Republic (deadspin.com). Taveras, who was one of the top prospects in baseball entering the previous two seasons, was 22.

"I first met Oscar when he was 16 years old and will forever remember him as a wonderful young man who was a gifted athlete with an infectious love for life who lived every day to the fullest.
In his lone MLB season, Taveras -- who earned comparisons to Vladimir Guerrero due to his aggressive batting approach and strong throwing arm -- hit .239/.278/.312. Taveras's girlfriend, Edilia Arvelo, was also killed in the crash.

Was it him who they were saying did not want to stay in the states in the off aason to work on his swing and was basically begging to be allowed to go play winter ball in the off season? I know I heard that story during the divisional or league series.
Tough break either way. 22 is too young. That's my daughter's age.
