Seriously though, this was finally an episode that didn't use the Batman mythos in a way that makes me want to kill people. This show should be all about the mob families in Gotham and not about Batman villains. There is no Batman yet so there shouldn't really any of them running around.
What exactly is the reason for the Fish Mooney character? All I can come up with is that they wanted a female mobster and made one up to fill the female quota. They just as easily could have used Erin McKillen who is a female mobster used last year in the comics. Mooney just seems like an odd character to throw in here when they're building a back story for Gotham and Batman. She's a throwaway character with no ties to anything.
Anyway, this was yet another babystep towards not sucking so much. It's got a ways to go, but it's not as terrible as it started. Promote this thread! | | lotjx

I assume the same -- after all, penguins eat fish for dinner. I thought they were going the cutesy route on that one.
Two potential answers for who hired the killer last night -- either Cobblepot or Fish. I'm guessing Fish. That said, for someone who said he needed to be "under the radar" in Gotham, plotting to become the new restaurant manager isn't that smart a move. Though it appears from the previews for next week that it resolves kinda quickly. | texasranger9

The writers said there will be a Joker reference in every episode this season. I don't think it is direct references to the Actor playing the Joker, but more of things done by him in previous movies, comics, and tv shows.
Like in the second episode. I think the bus they took looked like the bus the Joker drove out of the bank/ the hospital scene in The Dark Knight.

There is no doubt that this show has a ton of flaws and needs a lot of work, the two most important being timeframe (as discussed in an older thread, cell phones are used but no one has a computer better than a Tandy) and the random occurances of cliched stereotypes. One minute Fish is talking like a 40's gangster, to the point that I fully expect her to add "myeah, see" at the end of her sentences while referring to the police as "coppers", and the next she's expressing real emotion. I don't have a problem with either. I want them to make a choice and stick with it. You want to be campy and cliche? Go for it, full force. You want to be real and gritty? That's cool too. But make a choice.
As it stands now, the show is pretty terrible. But it's amusing to keep watching to see how far they will flip from one side of a theme to the other, usually in the same scene. The final audition for the showgirl immediately comes to mind: gritty and dark, emphasized by the pronounced final gulp of her drink.
Penguin is the only bright spot. I now fully understand why Jada hasn't had any significant roles ever. I'm still hopeful about the impending conversation concerning Jeter's retirement and how that blow is softened by the presence of Munson and Gehrig in the Yankee lineup. That's some brilliant fantasy booking that is crazy enough to happen in the world of Gotham.

I caught a playing card in the second episode on Penguin's wall of stuff. I've been looking, but I haven't caught anything else so far. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
