I kind of agree. First, Chris Rock was a pretty big deal 5-6 years ago, or 10, but what has he done in the last years? Grown ups and a couple of various episodes of his or his buddies shows. He used to be funny, but I don't know if he still is.
and Prince: Yeah, he's an iconic guy as well, but what lately? He has the new disc but it is 64th on Amazon right now. I don't know. Of course, I am older, but I am not excited. Prince seems - old to me.

Do Kristen Bell and Owen Wilson really belong in this group?

The point I was trying to make is that they're well known actors that have surprisingly never hosted SNL yet.
Add any of your own that you can think of.
Will Arnett is another fairly known actor that I'm amazed hasn't hosted yet.
Oh okay, I thought this was some kinf of formal megastars who have never hosted list. I think it's also surprising when you look at who has hosted. Many a head-scratcher.
It also speak to the loss of cultural relevance SNL has undergone. It's not the water-cooler show and hasn't been since probably the 90s. Dick in a Box & Tina Fey as Palin were really anomalies.

You're also forgetting Lazy Sunday.
SNL is a network show in an ever increasing world of media. Its not surprising that its lost cultural relevance over the last 20 years. I don't know what is a water cooler show anymore. The water cooler itself is so 90's. SNL's (and really all late-night sketch comedy's) purview seems to be in how many Youtube and Hulu views they can get.
Wouldn't the modern equivalent of the water cooler be twitter? Why talk about a show tomorrow when you can tweet about it immediately?

Depends where you work, probably, but it WOULD account for the fact that none of us ever really bother to start any SNL threads *about the actual episodes* anymore.

I thought about it, but there's only so many ways to say "this episode sucks" at this point. I thought there were exactly two funny things about the Sarah Silverman ep- The Fault In Our Stars parody and the final skit with the Vitamix. You guys should find that skit online, cause I enjoyed it, so you will too.

Doing sketch comedy, especially LIVE sketch comedy on TV, is a rare skill that only some actors are able to handle, as has been proven many times over in SNL history. Robert De Niro is one of the best actors ever but a terrible SNL host, for instance. It's not just about being funny, it's about adapting to cue cards and the many on-the-fly changes that come with the nature of the show --- I'm not sure this would fly with meticulous actors like Bale or Cruise.
That said, man, a Cruise-hosted SNL would be fascinating just as a social experiment. Ford hosting would also be a riot since he'd just grump his way through 90 minutes and openly give up on the show by Update. I suspect Bell or Bullock would handle hosting really well, and Pitt might be one of the most underrated comic actors around ('Burn After Reading' is example 1A) so he'd be a sneaky great choice.
