LeBron has opted out, now what for both him and the NBA?

My guess is that this is leverage to have Miami provide him the help he thinks he needs to win, especially with Wade looking a bit old and worn out. I think he would like to stay in Miami but wants (needs) to win more rings.

Money is not an issue for LeBron - he has more than his family can spend in a lifetime. it is now about rings. I am betting he wants to end up with 7 so he can have more tna Jordan and Kobe.

Miami is a bad fit. Wade is breaking down, Bosh is a complimentary piece. So who is the #2 option to take the pressure off LeBron?

I don't think he goes to the Lakers because he then helps Kobe get more rings.

I could see him winding up with the Clippers. It puts him in a huge market, out in LA for plenty of outside business ventures and for a strong team.

Of course, I would love it if he convinced Melo to take a pay cut and head to Cleveland. With Melo and LeBron, along with the #1 pick and the talent they have there AND Ray Allen willing to follow LeBron anywhere, they would waltz to the NBC Finals every year.

And, if he wants to play team ball for a great coach, go to San Antonio and dominate the league for the next three years.

I know nothing about Basketball, but I was thinking - LeBron is a fairly large celebrity and I agree, he wants the rings.

Duncan's going to come back, but only for a year or so, and he only has 5. Lebron goes there and he wins immediately.

OR

He goes to the Knicks with Jackson as the GM type and wins with Kobe and MJ's old coach.

ESPN is reporting that both Chris Bosch and Dwayne Wade have informed the Miami Heat that they are opting out of the last two seasons of their contracts and becoming free agents.

This leaves the team with no stars.
This leaves the team with an NBA record $55 Million in salarycap space to build a team for the upcoming season.

Glad I'm not a Heat fan.

Of course, the general consensus amongst the experts is that the most likely scenario is that all three are on the opening night roster for........the Heat. Now, as to who else is WITH them....?

This is actually great news for Heat fans. They weren't going to get better without Wade and Bosh (and Hasslem) taking pay cuts, and the only way they could take pay cuts is by opting out. They'll both end up with longer deals for more total money than they gave up, but less per year numbers, which should allow the Heat to sign some additions.

It would've been terrible news if they had NOT opted out - it wouldn't give the Heat a chance to improve and it would push LeBron to consider other teams.

In the long run, Bosh and Wade are giving up significant millions by doing this. They're going to be OK if they didn't make a single more dollar, but this is still a pretty selfless act in the aim of winning a championship.

It's going to be interesting to see if LeBron takes a pay cut after years of dominating the league as its best player by a wide margin. I'd imagine every owner in the league is rooting for that scenario, so that they can hold it over their own stars' heads.

"The best player in the world took a pay cut to make a better team. Why can't you? Are you selfish or something?"
