Probably not, because you can't expand by just one team, you have to have another to balance out the conferences (and then probably go through the complexities of realignment and whatnot that take time to handle). The NBA WILL be forced into expansion eventually because they cannot ignore Seattle forever after Stern and Bennett fvcked the city over twice, but it ain't happening this summer - the NBA won't approve any sale if there's even a smidgen of a chance that the new owner will move the team.
That said, what Shelly decides may end up being irrelevant, if Donald's senile stubborn old man response as detailed earlier tonight is any indication. | thecubsfan

It's unfortunate that Seattle is not going to get the team back. The one thing that people will have to realize here though is that there are Sonic fans who are really upset over Ballmer leaving for LA.
He did what he had to do in order to get a team back but the NBA isn't ready to play ball with the city of Seattle. The only thing I have a question on and maybe JJD knows this but does the MoU become invalid due to a financial backer leaving or does that not matter and Chris Hansen just need a whale to buy the team and stand up an arena? | JayJayDean

Their name is tarnished in public even though Balmer probably overpaid for it. It would be great to see the Sonics again and it was a rather bullshit way that they left. You are trading in one of the best cities in America with a giant upswing for cow folk. Some of who don't care they have the MVP even though James really is the MVP and will be for awhile.
