It would be interested to see if he would make a move to Seattle.

The NBA is going to have control over any sale, and they're not going to let anyone buy that team who would move it out of Los Angeles. They're not going to make that a one team town.

Or, does the NBA let the Clippers leave (taking care of the Seattle issue) and then have a NEW expansion team in Los Angeles that would net an even larger expansion fee than Seattle would. This also allows the NBA to essentially salt the earth of the Clippers franchise and erase Sterling from history.

Probably not, because you can't expand by just one team, you have to have another to balance out the conferences (and then probably go through the complexities of realignment and whatnot that take time to handle). The NBA WILL be forced into expansion eventually because they cannot ignore Seattle forever after Stern and Bennett fvcked the city over twice, but it ain't happening this summer - the NBA won't approve any sale if there's even a smidgen of a chance that the new owner will move the team.

That said, what Shelly decides may end up being irrelevant, if Donald's senile stubborn old man response as detailed earlier tonight is any indication.

Ballmer says he would not move the team out of Los Angeles. He could always be saying one thing and planning another, but saying moving the Clippers would be "destructive" is hard to take back later.

There is zero chance the Clippers are moving to Seattle. ZERO. The only relevance to Seattle with Ballmer buying the Clips is there will be another pro-Seattle voice among the ownership and that Chris Hansen needs a different financial partner now.

It's unfortunate that Seattle is not going to get the team back. The one thing that people will have to realize here though is that there are Sonic fans who are really upset over Ballmer leaving for LA.

He did what he had to do in order to get a team back but the NBA isn't ready to play ball with the city of Seattle. The only thing I have a question on and maybe JJD knows this but does the MoU become invalid due to a financial backer leaving or does that not matter and Chris Hansen just need a whale to buy the team and stand up an arena?

I would also like to assure Seattle fans that my remaining partners and I remain committed to bringing the NBA back to Seattle. The environmental review process for the Seattle Arena is nearing completion and we will soon be in a strong position to attract a franchise back to the Emerald City.

So I'd say that's a pretty firm statement that Hansen is in good shape, even without Ballmer.

I think that is a standard All is Well press release. It would be in the NBA's best interest to get rid of the parasite that is the LA Clippers. Their name is tarnished in public even though Balmer probably overpaid for it. It would be great to see the Sonics again and it was a rather bullshit way that they left. You are trading in one of the best cities in America with a giant upswing for cow folk. Some of who don't care they have the MVP even though James really is the MVP and will be for awhile.

Because of the $1 billion lawsuit, half of that $2 billion would go straight to the NBA if Sterling wins, so it seems like half of that $2 billion was an insurance policy against the lawsuit.
