Comedy Central announces this late on a Friday, which usually where you put bad news. I don't think this is bad news. I have no feel for how he'll do for a full half hour, but the five minutes he's on about once a month is usually good.
lemme italicize something
a distinct point of view and comedic take on the day’s news from a perspective largely missing in the current late night landscape. Hosted by Larry Wilmore, the series will feature a diverse panel of voices currently underrepresented in comedy and television
People are going to focus on the "diverse" part, and maybe they should in land of a lot of white guys talking late at night, but "panel" part interests me more. That makes it sound as if it won't be a host sitting behind a desk carrying two comedy segments and an interview, but something else. It's a smart idea to differentiate the new show drastically from what came before, but those type of shows do rely a lot on getting the right panelists. I mostly only know @midnight as a Twitter semi-spam which reminds me I ought to be thinking about sleeping soon, but it always sounds like the quality of that Comedy Central depends on how funny the guests are. This might be the same - or maybe I'm reading too much in to panel.

Chris Hardwick is really great (I actually thought he might end up getting something out of all this talk show... talk), and I wouldn't have given @midnight a thought had it not been for him. Yeah, Twitter goes a little nuts (guilty as charged) with the hashtag wars, but it's still a pretty funny way to spend 30 minutes. | Big Bad
