| #1 Posted on 12.3.14 1332.06 Reposted on: 12.3.21 1334.11 | We probably need a non-Yahoo home for this. I went to sign up for another league, and noticed it demanded my phone number for "verification." I tried to get around this, couldn't, and wanted to see what verification actually meant...
SMS/Text Messages Submitting your mobile phone number and clicking on “Send SMS” also constitutes your electronic signature and consent to receive not more than 2 automated, marketing text messages, per week from Yahoo. Providing your consent to receive these text messages is not a condition of purchasing any property, goods, or services. To participate in the free Yahoo Sports Tourney Pick‘em 2014 or Quicken Loans Billion Dollar Bracket Challenge with Yahoo Sports, you must initially agree to receive text messages from Yahoo, if you provided a mobile phone number. However, you can text STOP at any time or use this link to opt out of further text messages. Message and data rates may apply.
(The blurb acts as if there's an option not to give your phone number, but all I'm seeing is Send SMS or Cancel.)
There are ways to get around this, but this is dumb, I don't want to support this even indirectly, and there are a billion other places to do the same tournament brackets without signing up for text messaging advertising. Does ESPN work for everyone, or is there a better choice? Promote this thread! | | used2bcool

| #2 Posted on 12.3.14 1500.33 Reposted on: 12.3.21 1500.33 | I created a group on ESPN. It does require you to be registered with ESPN to participate. (Registration is free, of course, and I think only requires an email address and a username/password).
TheWBracketology (games.espn.go.com) password: crzformayor
Not sure if the link above will take you there if you are unregistered. You could also search for it under Fantasy & Games --> Tournament Challenge --> Create or Join Groups.
The group is "unlocked," which I think means you can swap brackets in and out during the tournament. I wasn't sure about this setting, and I think we can turn it to locked later.
Everyone is allowed 2 brackets.
p.s. Forgive my obnoxious username, I was apparently 17 when I created this account.
EDIT: In my excitement, I did not realize that Cubs was not inviting people to create a group on ESPN, but merely asking if it worked for everyone. I did not mean to step on any toes. If Cubs wants to be the moderator, we don't have to use this group. Sorry for the confusion.

And I don't care what they will tell you, that perfect bracket will be based on a ton of pure luck and randomness. It might as well be one of us winning it just so we could see the reactions here in the W.
If anything, from what I have seen this year with college basketball, it really has been a highly competitive and unpredictable season. It leads me to believe that these brackets could very likely have a lot more 'upsets' than ever before. | StaggerLee

EDIT: Hey, those brackets are now out. If you haven't yet joined the league, do so! I think we will lock the group on March 20th, when the main bracket play starts (not the first four), if that's okay with everyone.
Also, Louisville is a 4-seed? Are you kidding me? This is the 5th best team in the nation, 2nd best according to KenPom. A 4-seed?!

From the POV of a UK fan, it made me not want to join any pools. That team is "this close" to going on a run and winning it all. It's also "this close" to losing in the first round.
Florida is obviously the team to beat, but long winning streaks are a bad thing.

You aren't kidding. The Midwest region is murder. I had fun picking those, and it's probably the region that's the most different in my two brackets. The East and the West are fairly easy, and the South is all about going with your gut feeling in which version of some of the teams (Kansas, Syracuse) is going to show up. | used2bcool
