Reposted on: 9.3.21 1119.38 | So, knowing its their last season ever, the Clone Wars team decided to resolve all the outstanding issues from Asoka to Cade Bane to Maul being alive to...who are we kidding no they did not. They actually resolved little or nothing. The entire season is broken into four different stories, some good, some needless.
The first storyline deals with one of the clones,Tup killing a Jedi. This leads to his friend Fives investigating what cause this. Its an early execution of Order 66. However, Tup dies in the procedure and when Fives goes through it, he goes a bit paranoid. He does confront Palpatine about it and then Palpatine tells him everything, but since Fives is a rambling mess he is eventually shot. Good idea to do Order 66 now, but it didn't need to be four episodes long.
The second storyline deals with Clovis a guy who tried to kill Padme, but is back to uncover problems with the Banking Clan. Yep, we deal with three episodes about banking and people were pissed about politics. It does lead to Padme and Anakin taking a break after Anakin kicks Clovis' ass around. Dooku offers his help to Clovis who stupidly takes it and Palpatine makes him head of the Banking Clan with the Senate's help. It all falls apart for Clovis as Dooku "shockingly" betrays him. Clovis dies after Anakin is forced between saving him or Padme. Palpatine gets all the money. Three episodes of that.
The next storyline, you would think would be the worse the love life of Jar Jar Binks. It is actually pretty good. Jar Jar's girlfriend is a Queen and someone is stealing their Council to drain their Force Energy. Mace Windu goes with him and the discover the Temple of Doom. No joke, its the Temple of Doom lead by some Cultist of this Great Mother. The Great Mother happens to be the Sith Witch from Dattomire. They kidnap the Queen and take her to a desert world where hijinks occur. They rescue the Queen and kill the Witch. Yes, they remove one of the ten threats that was on this show.
The last storyline begins with the Jedi tracking down Master Sifo Dyious, ten years after his disappearance. They find some wreckage, bu it leads to more questions with answers Chancelor Valrom sealed. Valrom states he was dealing with spice drug lords on Pike. He had an assistant who died as well. Anakin an Obi-wan head to the Spice Mines and there they learn the assistant is alive as well as Dooku is Tyranous. That Dooku ordered the creation of the Clones, but the Jedi will cover it up. So, yeah nothing gets resolved.
This leads to the Council wondering if there is a Sith Lord who is above Dooku. That is side stepped by Qui-Gon Jinn contacting Yoda beyond the grave. The Council thinks Yoda is being corrupted and he begins medical test where he is told to go to Dagobah. With Anakin's help, Yoda and R2 head to Dagobah where Qui-Gon helps him with his training. He does go into the cave and sees the Jedi attacking Clones and Darth Sidous. Qui-Gon tells him he must go to another world for more training. He goes and is tutored by some weird people who are really dead. He is tempted by despair and joy. We finally get Asoka as an illusion and Qui-Gon in full form. He realizes its an illusion and moves on. He also confronts his dark side version of Gollum Yoda. He overcomes it and is sent to another planet, the Sith Homeworld.
If you played Star Wars: KOTR, you know this world. We do get a Darth Bane cameo. Sidous and Dooku try to corrupt him using some wishing well with Dooku's blood. There we get an illusion of Yoda and Anakin fighting Dooku and Sidous. Anakin kills Dooku the same way he did in Revenge of the Sith. Sidous force lightening Anakin and Yoda saves him while trying to fight Sidous. It ends with Yoda accepting his own death and for once in the 13 episode season, Palpatine suffers a defeat.
Yoda can now cross over, they also tell them there is a another Skywaler. Back at the Jedi Temple, Yoda states the blood of the Clone Wars has tainted them and that the next fight is where they really need to make a stand. Now, with the knowledge he has, they can win that war. He tells that to Mace who will not see this victory at all and he keeps the secret of life after death for himself. Something he will just give away to Obi-Wan later on. So, the one big question is how do we get Force Spirits is answered in four episodes even though two would have been fine.
In summation, Clone Wars ends where it begins with the sense that something great could happen and is happening, but the overload of outstanding plots point makes it tough to enjoy. That and the ultimate sense that none of this matters, because Sidous is going to win in the end. The only storyline to get the hint that Palpatine will ultimately fail is in the last story and even then its anti-climatic. We don't know the fate of Rex, Venturess, Maul, Cade Bane and most importantly Asoka.
Even if they didn't know this was going to be their last season, they should have wrapped up a few like say Maul. I like Clone Wars and I do think at times, its the best Star Wars we got during this time. Yet, there were other times, it was frustratingly annoying with back from the dead characters, storylines that went nowhere and the Asoka character. It wasn't bad, but at times it felt slow and prodding something Star Wars never should be. That is Star Trek.
