As someone who hasn't been into LEGO, or played any of the LEGO video games, I was surprised at how much I liked this movie. It was a real well-written story with a couple of layers to it, it was fun in the action sense, and a lot of laughs for adults in addition to funny scenes for kids.
The only downside I encountered was blowing a wad of cash at the local LEGO Store afterwards after Jr's imagination was stoked.
People loved Will Arnett's Batman, but for me the scene stealer was Benny, the 80s Spaceman with the broken chinstrap. Promote this thread! | | Eradicator

The movie itself was great. So many cameos and jokes that I am sure multiple viewings are necessary to catch them all. It was very well written and the voice cast was impressive. A pretty basic story, but one that was done just right. And after earning about $69 million over the weekend (the second highest February opening ever) it's no surprise that they have said that number two is already in the works.
It did remind me of a Star Wars movie in that it was one giant fast moving toy catalog. And just like Star Wars, a good chunk of the merchandise they have in stores appears for all of like five seconds in the film.

It was Pixar like in the way it had so much for the adults to love while still being a bright and easy to follow story for the kids. And the last 10-15 minutes had a good chunk of the theatre sniffling a little. | dwaters

Enjoyed it. They started to lose me a little toward the end. Funny how you never see or hear the word LEGO in the LEGO movie. | kentish

I got a kick about how Batman was avoiding Green Lantern as much as he could - although I thought it would have been funnier with Aquaman in the place of Green Lantern. | oudom

It was actually Superman that was avoiding Green Lantern but ended up always running into him. It was also funny because Channing Tatum is the voice of Superman and Jonah Hill is the voice of Green Lantern, and they both star in 21 Jump Street (and 22 Jump Street) which is made by Phil Lord & Chris Miller.
I liked the Lego Movie but was kind of annoyed by how choppy the animation was. I know they are going for the real Lego stop motion animation look but in 2014, I expected smooth animation. | StaggerLee

Every shot of a floor or wall had LEGO clearly displayed.
I thought it was okay. Not the laugh fest some people thought it was, but the whole Star Wars bit was my favorite part.

That is funny you say that because my son's friend Ben came over a day or two after we saw the movie. he said his cousin Jagger (sp?) was coming to visit him and I said "is she a DJ"? Sadly, it went right over their heads and Ben said "no she is only 12".
