| #1 Posted on 20.12.13 1450.21 Reposted on: 20.12.20 1451.06 | The Charlotte Bobcats, who will "bring back the buzz" by changing their name to the Charlotte Hornets starting next season, will unveil the new Hornets logo tomorrow at halftime of their game against the Utah Jazz.
The original Charlotte Hornets team relocated to New Orleans for the 2002-03 season, and played as the New Orleans Hornets until the conclusion of last season. (They were briefly the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets when they needed a temporary home after New Orleans was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina). The New Orleans Hornets' new owner changed their name to the Pelicans this year, naming the team after the state bird of Louisiana in an effort to make the nickname more relevant to New Orleans citizens.
Thus, the "Hornets" nickname was freed up, and Bobcats majority owner Michael Jordan (in perhaps his smartest move since assuming that role) claimed the nickname for the Bobcats, who will become the Hornets at the conclusion of the 2013-14 season.
Anyway, that's the background. I, myself, hope that Jordan will simply run with the original Hornets logo. Of the pictures shown in the article, I like 3, 4 and 5 (the Death Hornet... hee!), but the official Pelicans logo was not among those shown in a similar article last season, so... take that for what it's worth.
In any event, hats and T-shirts with the original Charlotte Hornets logo have never stopped being sold to the best of my knowledge (they're available in shopping malls where I live, even as we speak), so my thought is, why mess around with a proven winning brand?
Of course, if the new Hornets franchise is ever going to fill the hole left by the departure of the previous one, they're gonna have to start winning. Promote this thread! | | Matt Tracker

Were people really that salty about Hugo's name? All I remember about him is how awesome he was and how beloved he was, even by other teams' fans.
