It's a Very Special Thanksgiving Smackdown! The main event for this show was a tag title match with Cody Rhodes and Goldust defending against The Shield. Dean Ambrose did guest commentary, at one point noting that Cody "burned his save" by rescuing Goldust from a pin and thus making reference to that unpublished wrestling rule revealed by Jimmy Korderas on Aftermath and passed on by yours truly in a Smackdown thread some months ago. Cody brought back his Muscle Buster (called as such by Ambrose) on Rollins during the match. Later, Cody dodged Rollins' flying knee and hit the Crossrhodes, bringing Ambrose in for the DQ. The following Ambrose beatdown brought out CM Punk to save the day, and led to Vickie Guerrero changing the match into a six man tag.

In said six man tag, when CM Punk looked to be about to GTS Ambrose, the Wyatt Family appeared at ringside to distract him. When the momentum swung back in the favour of the good guys, the Wyatts actually hit the ring to cause the DQ. That brought out the Usos and Rey Mysterio to even the odds, and once more, Vickie Guerrero restored order and made a twelve man tag.

In said twelve man tag, CM Punk managed to hit the GTS on Erick Rowan (with a little help from a Mysterio 619) to get his team the victory and end the fifty minute sequence of matches. Yeah, fifty minutes. Does this help solidify the Shield as WWE's MVPs for the year? Though Cody and Goldust deserve credit for sticking out the whole 50 minutes too.

In other news, Renee Young scared Randy Orton away with tough questions in the opening segment. Mark Henry, with Big E Langston in his corner, beat Curtis Axel with The Ryback in his corner, using the World's Strongest Slam. Los Matadores and El Torito beat the Plymouth Rockers in a five and a half man tag match by hitting their tag finisher on Drew McIntyre. Brodus Clay was angry over Xavier Woods borrowing his entrance on Monday, shoving him backstage before Tensai could step in to break it up. In the resulting tag match, Tons of Funk beat R-Truth and Xavier Woods when Brodus hit Woods with a second rope splash. The Funkadactyls looked disappointed afterwards, though with Brodus' encouragement they eventually started dancing. So Brodus looks to be going heel, but Tensai is resistant?

Finally, there was of course the Thanksgiving storyline. Vickie was holding a Thanksgiving Leftovers Party backstage, where she promised there would be no mayhem, instead offering up an eating contest between Titus O'Neill and the Great Khali. AJ was kicked out of the party for showing up uninvited, as Vickie still hates her. Titus won the eating contest when Khali collapsed into his bowl, and Vickie gave him his prize, a match against Antonio Cesaro. You know what that means. Giant swing! Darren Young, sympathetic to Titus' plight, attacked Cesaro to cause a DQ mid-swing, but it was too late for Titus, who proceeded to vomit in JBL's hat (helpfully censored by a cartoon turkey). That wasn't quite enough, so he also threw up on Zeb Colter's head. And a little bit was left over for Darren Young at the end.

Take it away!

So I should be glad I missed most of the first hour, but missed almost none of that second hour. Just an amazing display from everyone involved. Loved Dean on commentary, he sounded very comfortable, and I hope he doesn't get any crap for name-dropping the Hardys and Dudleys (and Goldust's age), plus he asked if Edge & Christian were brothers! Ha!

A great exhibit in how well WWE could operate if they didn't employ writers, because that second hour was the laziest writing they've ever done, yet somehow turned out some perfectly fine wrestling, while the first hour contained some of the biggest dares ever to get me to change the channel - which is saying a lot. (I heard even Darren Drozdov was trying to walk away from that one.) But Kudos to TO for committing to the bit.

I hate myself for laughing at the Titus vomit bit as hard as I did. I guess I was in a good mood.

This was a tag-team-a-riffic Smackdown. All the matches were either tags or singles with tag partners at ringside.

There was a ton to like in that protracted main event, but my favorite part was Ambrose on commentary. He really focused everybody on the match, which is something Cole and JBL have a lot of trouble doing on their own. It was also the most I've heard Ambrose speak. He's got a real talent on the mic.

He also made reference to Savage/Hogan at WrestleMania V with that "cut below/over the eye" remark.

...At least, I think that's what he was doing.

Ambrose was AWESOME on commentary. He even gave the Rhodes Brothers some credit; I was amazed.

...I didn't really see the point of him intentionally getting The Shield disqualified when they're the challengers, though. (Of course the Real Reason was so they could start Phase 2 of the 50-minute match sequence).

Check for it under the bed, it's where I put mine.

Anyway, to elaborate, an unspoken WWE rule is that during a tag team match, each team is allowed to have the illegal man come in to break up a pin once during the match. Doing so a second time will lead to a disqualification. It's one of those rules that would really benefit from being communicated on TV, so that the commentators can talk about it in a strategic sense like football timeouts are talked about.

I've seen others speculate that it exists more as a storytelling rule than an actual "in the rulebook" rule meant to be known by the fans, something to keep tag teams from being lazy and repeatedly break up pins. That said, I do remember there was one match on Raw where a DQ was actually called for a team breaking up a pinfall for the second time, and the commentators were confused about why the DQ occurred. Hearing Ambrose reference it during commentary makes me wish they'd just bring it out in the open.

I was there live and couldn't get my Roman Reigns sign on despite being four seats away from him during his aisle entrance. Whatupwitdat?

Great main event that just kept going and going with a great pop for Punk. He stuck around after giving hi-fives and gave a nice thank you for coming out speech to the fans.

Oddly, this is not the first time I've seen a wrestler puke live, as I was also in attendance the night Papa Shango cursed the Ultimate Warrior and made him throw up all over the place.

I wish it was implemented in the games. It'd make the tension during close tag-team falls way more intense.

Also think it'd be an interesting wrinkle if they promoted the rule on-air, however it would be a pain to book around and would almost instantly create inconsistencies from match to match, so it's overall probably better left unsaid.

The more rules they implement the more they limit the possibilities, and that's the last thing they'd want to do.
Personally I think they might be forced to come up with more creative ideas if they stuck to some rules, but that's another story.
