Don't know if this is old information but CM Punk was the latest guest on Marc Maron's podcast and it was incredibly candid and good. If you haven't listened, you really should. He gives some pretty interesting thoughts on his beginnings, the SES, and 2011.

Edit: Ugh, sorry. It should be Marc, not Mark.

Very good interview. Don and Harriet need to be restrained was my favorite line.

Thanks for the heads-up. Based on all the positive comments from non-wrestling fans in the comments section, it must be really good. Cant remember the last time I read that far into a comments section without ketting kicked in the face with something racist or political name-calling. Impressive.

Punk really let his guard down and was patient with Maron's admitted ignorance about how wrestling worked. The description of how the pipebomb moment came to be and the backstage reaction is great.

I really dug an outside perspective that Maron was trying to explain about his current understanding of pro-wrestling. How it's mainly a violent colorful stage play about heroes and villains, and that maybe in most relationships in life someone is the heel while the other person is the face was profound.

I've totally been the heel starting a relationship then had a double heel/face turn with the EX ala Austin/Bret Wrestlemania 13 so I get it.

Listen to his interview with Colt Cabana, it was really fascinating with Maron trying to wrap his brain around the art of pro wrestling and tying it into other forms of performance. I kinda wanted more about Punk's life and career and less about that topic, since Maron already went over that with Colt, but this was still an outstanding listen of course. The topic of straight edge doesn't even come up til late in the interview, and primarily in the context of explaining the SES angle. I miss those long-haired, long-winded monologues on SmackDown!...

I read the title as "CM Punk on Mark Mero", and thought, "Finally, the dirt on Johnny B. Badd".

I'll have to listen to this podcast.

Thanks for the heads up. This was a really, really good listen. Punk came off nicer than his reputation sometimes makes him out to be. Hope he does a follow-up.

It must be strange to have strangers call you Phil when you don't really go by that professionally. Great to his take on the pipe bomb and how it all went down.

Only downside was Maron constantly telling us he's not a wrestling fan.

*Also liked the story of the making of the Be A Star ads and how they wouldn't let him say "faggot" when asked what name his bullies called him.
