Just when you thought Silva was doing to deliver another superhuman display of mockery/taking punches, Weidman lays the BOOM of a lifetime by catching Silva in mid-taunt. What an upset, what a finish, and yet there's also the nagging feeling that Weidman didn't really win as much as Silva beat himself by goofing around.

Also, the post-fight presser was entertaining, just because one of the very first questions was whether the main event was fixed. Dana White treated that stupid question the way you would expect.

If this were a new thing for him I'd agree, but it's not. Cocky mindgames have been as much a part of Silva's arsenal as his punches, all the way back to ducking and weaving in front of Rich Franklin's face--hell, all the way back to goading Tony Fryklund into letting him try a Tony Jaa elbow. He's always used them to get his opponents to freak out and open themselves up.

He did what he always does and this time it didn't work. Weidman told him he wasn't scared of him and he proved it.

I like how Meltzer descibed it as "terry funk showboating."

Best thing to happen to the UFC this year. The division opens up for title competition, every fight at middleweight has new significance, and Chael Sonnen has to be considering a return to that class to finally get a belt. All hail Silva. He lost using the same style in which he won. I hope there's a rematch, but I want Silva to work his way up to it first.

I thought Gonzaga would get KO of the Night. Oh well.

And Barbosa dissected his opponent solely with leg kicks. A fascinating win.

Just caught the fights and well...that is what you get for showboating. I know that Silva has been known to be an ass during his bouts because he believes in his own hype and he should. No one had been able to beat him.

Sonnen does not deserve a title fight and needs to work his way back to it. He has lost 2 of the last 3 and 3 of his last 5 fights.

If Silva is truly going to step away from the title picture as he was indicating during the post-fight, then my guess is that Weidman's first defense will either be against Belfort, who looked really good against Rockhold or possibly Okami, depending on what he does against Souza in September.

I never want to be kicked by Barboza. Holy crap that was impressive.

I watched the card at a rowdy sports bar that went almost silent in the short moments between the knockdown and stoppage. I've seen a lot of fights at this bar and have never before seen the crowd react like that.

My assumption is that Silva said he doesn't want the rematch because when the rematch gets booked it will pump up the interest that much more.

The loss obviously hurts Silva's record and official legacy, but I don't think it says much about his skill level. His taunting strategy just went too far, and maybe he's even bored with the competition and wanted to get knocked down just to see if he could recover. The guy's been on top of the world for so long and made so much money that it's hard to put yourself in his shoes are guess at why he does what he does.

Anyway, MMA has been a bit stale as of late with regards to big fights and a big loss like this is interesting, so I'm glad it happened. Can't wait to hear what crazy comments Sonnen comes up with about all this!
