Since Hollywood is running out of original ideas, or rehashing the old ones, what older movie would you like to see Hollywood remake with an updated version?

I know they say that you shouldn't remake a good movie, but I'd like to see a "Princess Bride" remake. I love it but the music is dated (very synth heavy) and Andre the Giant is mostly unintelligible. Cast Big Show in that role, keep the storybook feel without the music sounding dated, and you've got two improvements right there.

I was thinking Ghostbusters. First off, the special effects would be much better. And the script does not have to change too much so it is not like a complete re-write is needed.

If I had a position of power within Hollywood, I would be going full speed ahead with a Dirty Harry franchise reboot starring Hugh Jackman. The first film would be directed by Clint Eastwood.

I'd like to see a Dune with better effects, but this falls more under the category of books I'd like to see as films (again) rather than my wantig a remake of the Lynch one.

The only other thing that springs to mind is a complete Back to the Future reboot complete with subtle cameos from original cast members.

The bad thing about Back to the Future being remade is that the '80s are pretty similar to the 2010s. Maybe the main character could break up his grandparents in the early '60s instead?

Batman - the hokey 60s version. One of my favorite movies of all time could be a really good remake.

I think they did well with the True Grit remake a couple years back and I think a few cowboy movies would have great remake. High Noon, for example, and maybe The Searchers. I agree with the Dirty Harry reboot, except I'd like Chris O'Donnell in the role. In that light, I would also like to see the Death Wish series reborn, and finally, Perry Mason.

I think the Philip Marlowe detective series by Raymond Chandler - most of which were made into films at one point or another - would be a great franchise. Having seen the original The Big Sleep, which was good, and Altman's The Long Goodbye, which was awful, there could be, if nothing else, a couple of nice contemporary versions of these films.

Dune was a great choice.

Plenty of Superhero movies need remakes:

Punisher - War Zone is a guilty pleasure, but they still haven't nailed it.

Daredevil - Needs more of a Dark Knight tone and treatment

I can't believe no one has a made a gritty, realistic version of Barberella. It seems like a license to print money.

The Last Starfighter. It still holds up pretty well today, except for the computer graphics, which look really dated by today's standards.

Actually, I wouldn't mind either a remake or a sequel to the film. Though I suspect a new DVD/Blu-ray release of the original film would be required in order for most people to be familiarized enough with the Starfighter mythos for a Part II. (Not to mention the fact that the guy who played Centauri is loooong dead, and Lance Guest must be quite old by now).

How about Hackers? That was a fun movie back whenever, but a new modern version would be good!

Maybe you an I remember the 1980s differently, but if you sent Marty back from 2013 to 1983 he would be lost simply without Google, a GPS, and a smartphone.

I think you could remake Ferris Bueller's Day Off right now accounting for how different things are today, technology-wise.

Ferris explaining away the viral video of him on the float in the parade would be an epic scene.

Stripes. You'd have to change the location from Europe to Korea for it to work, but hey.

Midnight Run. The movie is pretty good, but an updated version is almost begging to be made. Cast Will Farrell instead of Charles Groden for some comic relief moments, and you don't have DeNiro smoking inside every place he goes.

I also firmly believe remaking Lethal Weapon could work incredibly well. Change every instance of the word "Vietnam" with "Afghanistan" and toss Channing Tatum alongside Terrance Howard as the new Riggs and Murtaugh.

YES. Why am I stuck with the image of Micheal Cera with a bra on his head?

Don't know if he'll be in it, but this remake is indeed in the works.
