http://scifipulse.net/2013/03/carrie-fisher-reprising-her-classic-role-as-princess-leia/

Star Wars fans young and old alike will be happy to know that Carrie Fisher has confirmed to Palm Beach Illustrated, that her beloved character, Princess Leia will be appearing in the upcoming Episode VII, to be released by Disney.

The Star Wars franchise was purchased by Disney, and the company has confirmed that it will indeed be making the next three installments in the Star Wars Saga, Fisher has only confirmed her appearance in the first film of the newest trilogy at present.

Fisher, now 56, who starred as Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan in the original three Star Wars movies, joked about her character’s current status in the Star Wars universe saying, “She’s in an intergalactic old folks’ home.”

She continued on to say, “I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle.”

The famed Star Wars actress also added that Princess Leia would still potentially be fashioning her trade mark “bagel buns”, and jokingly said, “The bagel buns and the bikini, because probably she has Sundowners’ Syndrome. At sundown, she thinks that she’s 20-something. And she puts it on and gets institutionalized.”

While I have always enjoyed Ms. Fisher’s off the cuff remarks, the reprisal of her iconic role is for me good news and goes along with my prediction that the next trilogy of movies will at least partly deal with the Princess’s twin-brother, Master Skywalker’s life work of reinstating the Jedi Order and finally bringing balance to the Force. We should also potentially see another set of twins born to Leia and General Solo who may very well be students and/or members of the new Jedi Order.

I have faith that Disney will do this trilogy right and along with J.J. Abrams talented and life-long Geek-ishly informed (and I say this in the best way possible) vision, will also bring balance to the Star Wars franchise! Make it So!

As soon as Harrison Ford signs on, I'll get excited. Either way, this is cool.

And that person's name is Jean-Luc Picard.

-edit- .............and I just realised with that comment, I just turned this into a Star Wars/Trek thread. Look out.

uhhh...someone has no idea what they are talking about.

Restoring the Jedi order wouldn't bring balance to the force.

At the start of episode 1 there are two dark jedi and 1000's of light jedi. Anakin brings balance to the force by killing all but two of the light jedi, so during the time between episode 3 and 4, there is balance to the force. 2 light jedi (Obi-wan and Yoda) and 2 dark jedi (the emperor and darth vade).

The jedi were idiots for wanting to bring balance to the force. It was imbalanced, IN THEIR FAVOR.

Bloomburg Business Week article and interview with George Lucas re: Lucasfilm selling to Disney quotes Lucas as saying (superherohype.com) Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford were already signed for Star Wars Episode VII even before the sale.

Each announcement of an original core cast member seems to be just hyping already done deals.

Now the actress's reps are already backtracking on her claim, telling CNN that Fisher 'was joking...Nothing has been announced.'

I don't want to see old Princess Leia, and I think there's nothing I want to see less than old Han Solo. Old Luke Skywalker's a bit better, but I'd still rather consign him to a cameo as a Force Ghost. Let's take these sequels out a bit and do something fresh with the setting.

But Lucas let it slip that Hamill, Fisher, and Ford were already signed and ready to go.

Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford signed on for the next "Star Wars" movie. This is *great* news!

Or, rather, it *would've been* great news... in 1987.

I'm fairly confident that these films will be pretty damn good without George's direct involvement.

That said, I still have a fear that he'll somehow manage to turn my three childhood heroes into old people talking endlessly about politics.

Well, technically, time is what turned them into old people. Politics, well, that one you can probably pin on him (or whoever actually writes the script).

No making fun of Carrie Fisher personally -- she's awesome! Anybody who does comedy based on the electroshock she gets for her bipolar disorder is fabulous.

Now, the gold bikini itself & bagel buns are wide open targets. :-)
