This is big. I mean, not for me, per se. I don't like or read the Green Lantern books. But Johns has been responsible for the wildly successful overhaul of Green Lantern and its corner of the DC universe. Johns walking away after 9 years as Guardian of Green Lantern is the DC equivalent of Bendis ending his epic and wildly successful 8 year run on Avengers.

Johns' own words on the DC site. (dccomics.com)

Unless this somehow paves the way for a print continuation of the Green Lantern animated series, I am fully indifferent. Geoff Johns does nothing for me as a writer, and on it's own, the Green Lantern corps does nothing for me as a concept. Specifying the new writer for the series might actually pique my interest, though.

WTOP, the all-news radio station of record here in the DC area, actually talked about it during their regular news rotation this afternoon. With the Pope resigning and this still sneaks in as a headline, that's pretty cool for the comic book world.

It's actually an even bigger story than that for DC. Not just Johns but all of the Green Lantern books' creative teams are leaving. (bleedingcool.com)

DC and Marvel are both having their multi-writer creative summits as we speak. I'm very curious what DC's next move is. I can't think off the top of my head who the most natural fit is on their writing roster to oversee the Green Lantern franchise.

Just don't give it to Morrison. I have liked his run. It made Hal into a likable character. I am thinking Snyder will be asked, because he is their ace now.

Grant Morrison's a good idea if the goal is to make the series go someplace completely different. After years of very solid but predictable Green Lantern stories, a bit of surreal insanity would be a nice twist for a year or so.

I thought Johns had a good opener with Rebirth and the run from Sinestro Corps War through the end of Blackest Night was incredible. I liked Blackest Night so much that when it was over I stopped reading Green Lantern, and actually all of DC. The White Lantern and resurrection stuff was cool as an endgame device but I had no interest in following up on it for a while.

There were two stories that really got me back into modern comics in earnest. The first was 52 (co-written by Johns) and The Sinestro Corps War, which is one of the coolest comic book stories I've read in the last ten years. Just so many cool reveals, great pacing, and the absolute best climax I could ask for with Hal and Sinestro saying "fuck the rings" and settling everything with a straight-up fist fight, because THEY HATE EACH OTHER THAT MUCH! It's a brilliant story and Johns deserves a lifetime pass for that story alone and it's why I didn't rail too hard against the ultimately-disappointing Blackest Night.

Hell, I remember how much fun we all had having our minds blown in the original Sinestro Corps thread on this very board!

For me there was one comic that got me into comics; GL Rebirth. And one comic which sustained it; The Flash, feat. Wally West.

Johns leaving the title is a huge deal for me, I've been following GL and enjoying it greatly ever sense.

Well, DC announced the new Green Lantern creative teams. (newsarama.com) I, uh, don't really know these names. Just as well. Just gonna keep on not reading Green Lantern. Ahh.

Speaking of Green Lantern and Geoff Johns, Johns' Justice League of America #1 and Vibe #1 launch today. I'll be reading one of those. Will report back if I'm so moved...

Green Lantern's new writer created "The Surrogates" (yay!) and rebooted X-O Manowar. (meh)

GLC's new writer most recently did "I, Vampire," which was just cancelled due to low sales.

I... hmmm... I don't want to say they're purposely tanking the line, but it certainly seems that way.
