Whelp, there are going to be more Star Wars movies on top of the Star Wars movies already announced. Similar to Marvel's 'release solo Avengers movies in between Avengers team up movies' plan, Disney wants standalone Star Wars films in the 3 year interim between Episodes VII, VII and IX.

Entertainment Weekly (insidemovies.ew.com) says possibilities include Young Han Solo (ergh. Recasting Harrison Ford), Boba Fett, and young Yoda movies. And whatever else. Simon Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan are writing whatever these spinoffs will be. Seems like these ideas right now take place in the 20 years or so between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. EW speculates that's for the business reason of getting Darth Vader in these movies when he was a young Sith Lord. Whatever, as long as they're good.

Feels like Fox's attempt to do X-Men Origins:Wolverine and Magneto. They are going to get continuity all messed up.

I have no problem with these at all, as long as they're well done ...

I think a story of young Han Solo is actually quite interesting ... especially how he came to know Chewbacca, Lando, etc ...

PAGING ROGUE SQUADRON.

REPEAT: PAGING ROGUE SQUADRON (AGAIN).

Yeah, I know it's the twenty years between Sith and Hope. Don't care, someone make me a Rogue Squadron film.

I wouldn't mind seeing a "Vader hunting Jedi between Episodes III and IV" film; I've seen a fan-film or two with that concept that were quite good.

Love the idea of Rogue Squadron, but would rather see that developed as an ongoing TV series.

Wish they'd consider the original Thrawn trilogy by Timothy Zahn at some point. Those three books pulled me back into the SW universe when I was in college and I think they could be made into fantastic movies.

I don't know, I think these types of movies could actually be quite good.

They don't need to be as "epic" as the mainline titles, which means they will be much less forced.

Plus, they can work with some cool, fun ideas if they really want.

If we are voting for book ideas, I think the Bounty Hunter Wars would also work well on the big screen.

At one time I read some of the branded novels that were Star Wars themed, some good, some, well, not so much - I remember one - Han Solo at Star's End that was pretty good. Seems like they have some resources to draw on.

Agreed. The continuity for Han begins when he steps foot into the the Cantina in Ep 4, so they should not be able to mess that up as they did in the X-men prequels somewhat. Same goes with Fett, really.

I am coming around more and more to this as they release information.

Maybe some backstory on this deleted scene:

I think Boba Fett is the easiest of the three to do. Huge fan favorite, and not a lot of backstory to have to worry about. I'd be more excited if there wasn't the annoying little twerp prequel version out there to have to work with though.

Yoda...I dunno. I think he works better having some mystique.

Han is the trickiest. I do NOT wanna see Robert Pattison or any of the other teen idols playing him. But with a good actor maybe...Ewan McGregor was one of the few bright spots in the prequels.

But screw this, one of these should have been about HAMMERHEAD.

I want the movie to explain why Vader singled Boba Fett out directly when he said "Remember. No disintegration."

How about a remake of the Star Wars Christmas episode?

I kid, I kid.

Seriously, I would love to see what happened between Episode 3 and 4. Three movies on three lives: Vader, Leia and Luke would be pretty sweet.

DIsney has a tendancy to put out sequels just to make a buck (Bambi 2, anyone?) so I'm gonna guess this is merely a cash grab. They need to be careful, though - too much of a good thing is a bad thing. Too much Star Wars and people will tire of it.

Why do I see Red Matter being used in these movies. I havzero desire to see a Fett film and while Han is awesome, I am leery of anything to do with him. I don't need to see anymore of any character's past. Show me the future. And if its not Epic or feel epic then its not Star Wars.

According to an interesting theory from Cracked it's because Fett torched Owen & Beru.
